Dp cues.. Any good?

So you didn't give Dale Perry an opportunity to fix the cue, and or address the situation?

I'm surprised at how cleanly that cue broke.

I was hoping that you were joking, but I see that you were not.

The cue cost me a little over $100. I trashed the cue butt and sold the shaft for $30 or $40, IIRC. I wasn't going to waste more money sending firewood back to the maker.

The was not centered during the final turn, joint pin, and collar install. You could see the forearm offset in the joint. It was terrible. Absolutely crap. It didn't help that the entire cue was pretty much hollow.

What are you insinuating about how it broke?...

The thickness of the threads were the only part connecting the buttsleeve to the handle. That's pretty shoddy craftsmanship too me. The photo on the left is the handle and the photo on the right is the butt sleeve. You can see the bolt in the butt sleeve, so why is the handle threaded so deep? It's essentially a cored cue with a core.

Reching out to Dale...

Dave_M: Dale, I bought a cue off ebay for $100 and it broke into 3 pieces. What do you plan on doing about it?

DP: Was it a 1 of 1?

Dave_M: I sure as f**k hope so! It's now a 1 of 1, 2 and 3!

DP: Well I can see from the photos you sent that it broke clean.

Dave_M: Yes, it actually just exploded spontaneously in the middle of the night and blew out my ebay Porper-like case.

DP: If you read our terms on ebay, we don't cover that, nor property damage due to any defect, loss of limb or life. Why don't you sell it on ebay. I guess you could legally call it a "break cue". LOL.

Dave_M: Good idea - I can have 3 auctions that way.

DP: Well Dave, let's not flood the market with DP cues. Were you using it as a nanchuck or sex toy? We don't cover using our cues as a nanchuck or sex toy.

Dave_M: Darn, got me there. Would you at least sign the other pieces?

DP: Sure, let me put you on the waitlist...

That's about right.

I'm sure asking Dale Perry, "Hey, will you fix my cue, because you don't know WTF you are doing when it comes to cue building?" will go over very well

At this point anyone that still wants a DP should buy it and see how it goes.

Structurally, the one I have has held up OK, but like someone else mentioned, you can just slip the stainless steel joint collar right off like it had never been attached in the first place. The shaft also is bent like a banana, and I keep all my cues inside my air-conditioned house, stored upright in a case. The DP is the only warped shaft I have. It's literally about a half-inch of warp.

There's an adage, "I'm poor so I can only afford the very best"

I think it also translates to "You get what you pay for"

DP quality has been hit or miss since he went tot he eBay model, and it seems like he's running out of "hit"

The core into another core is a designed air gap, which is Dale's version of a low deflection butt sleeve.
We call that Performance by Design

I bought my son a dp a few years ago. It was his first cue and he loved it. The cue was beautiful and played well. I upgraded my son to a custome cue by Tom Coker and sold the dp for close to what I paid for it so my experience with dp cues was a good one.
