Dp cues.. Any good?

Lol, very funny reply. As a player, I had a lot of bad luck with DP cues (3 that I ordered directly from DP through ebay I was very unhappy with, and these 3 orders were over like a 10 year period of time, and the quality of his cues seemed to be about the same, but I kept giving one another try, and was unhappy 3 times in a row over the years). The last DP that I had actually played really nice though. Found it in a pawn shop, and I think I paid a $100 even for it. It was one of his older ones with the Uni Lock joint, and I thought it hit really nice. I am (and have always been) an average B player with an A game every now and then (if that matters), and as a players cue, I do not think any serious player would be happy with a DP cue purchased from ebay directly through DP.

Dp are really ugly, the inlays are awful, and you get what you pay for.
Once you tune up the shaft they play OK, but who wants to play with a cue that is exceptionally ugly.

This is what I think of DP cues...

No, the "bad rep on AZ" is because Dp cues are really crappy.
I don't know any "flippers" that would of been dumb enough to get stuck in a $1000+ Dp cue, but I do know players that paid up to $1300.

I'm not saying they are as well made as a Joss, but then again I believe a $30 cue off the poolroom wall that has a good shaped tip and feels good to me, is good to go. Johnnyt

The look has a lot to do with it these days especially with the younger players, and the young guys make the cue business pop.
That is what I see here in Denver, on AZB, and Facebook...it's the young guys & gals, and it's hard to sell ugly.
I know ugly is in the eyes of the beholder, but if God had to take one cuemaker...

I go along with this. Makes sense too. Johnnyt

Did you ever reach out to Dale Perry?

What for? I bought one of his eBay specials at a somewhat fair price and I managed to break it. His cues are not high quality and are poorly constructed with cheap materials. There is nothing to reach out about.

I think, no I hope, he was joking.

I moved near Jacjsonville in 96. I went to his shop and had him make a very fantasy cue plus a break cue. The workmanship was poor, the hit sucked and I had to have him rework the shafts twice. I bought a McDermott break/jump cue that broke better. the fantasy cue felt like a pole. I eventually donated it.

You would be much better off getting a LD production cue, OB, Predator, Mezz, Schon.....you pick it or people here can advise. I assure you, at least with my experience with his best effort, The presators and OBs I have tried are much better.

See folks, now they've gone and pissed off phil dade.
This Dale Perry needs to be stopped before we hear from the next pissed off victim
Dp does have an unique tenon system, very interesting

I'm sure the bad rep on AZB for DP cues is from flippers that got caught holding his cues they bought at a high price when he went to making $150-$$300 cues and selling them like hotcakes online.
Johnnyt

Nope
, Just had to repair a couple of them, that is what I am basing my opinion on and nothing else.

I have 3, the oldest of which is 10 years old.

All of them have a solid, consistent hit. The workmanship on mine are all just fine, and I've never seen an issue with the cues.

Beauty is in the eye of beholder; I like the look of all 3 of mine. One is mostly purpleheart in the forearm, with some ebony points with a little faux mother of pearl in the tips, and is my daily shooter.

Your mileage may vary but I've had really good luck with an inexpensive well made cue.

My wife's cue may be an exception! It has held up well so far being 5+ years old. She didn't get an ebay one though and had it custom made from the site...maybe he tries harder on those lol. She loves it though and that is all that matters.
Mine was also custom made from the site..... I just got a bad one

So you didn't give Dale Perry an opportunity to fix the cue, and or address the situation?

I'm surprised at how cleanly that cue broke.

LOL, a really big LOL. I've seen bigger dowels than that holding clothespins together.

Well, to fair, the wood for those clothespins were aged more than 3 days and built in a humidity controlled environment ;)

Ok, but to be fair, there always has to be a good, better, and best. Every sport has that. Not all baseball bats cost $400, you can get some cheap ones for $50. Not everyone can afford, nor wants to buy the "top of the line" for equipment, cars, clothes, watches, whatever.

Just the way it's always been and always will be >

I've had two of DP's cues. The first was when he was selling them at high prices to dealers - I resold it and got my money out of it (thankfully) but after about 7-8 months the stainless collar came so loose it would slide off. I tried to contact Dale many times to see if he would repair it and never got a response, so I had a local cuemaker fix it at my cost. Same thing happened after buying one of the cheaper ones off ebay.

Dale offered ZERO customer service in either case. But I will say both cues played fine.
