DPK cues

I was just browsing and seeing some for the first time. I thought I was going to have to change my clothes. I've heard that he pioneered many famous cue making techniques used today.

So I've got to ask, what do you guys know about David Paul Kersenbrock, and who can post some pics of cues made by him.

While I won't be able to afford one until I graduate, I need a dream!

Southwest are similar to what David designs/builds. David taught Jerry Franklin and did design work for Jerry after Southwest bacame a household name in the pool world. I'v only seen one of David's cues in person, BIM, leather wrap, VERY stiff hit, much moreso than a Southwest.

He also taught...

Mike Bender, and currently Ed Young. When he was with Bender, it was Omega/DPK. Now, both DPK and Ed work in the same shop. For the record, there is very long waiting list for Southwest's, so get on the list now!:p (I should be getting a call in 2011 I think. :p) Also, unless you have an extra $15,000 lying around someplace, your not going to get a Kershenbrock, unless it's second hand.

My response

Most cues that tout "Southwest" design, or hit are basically coming from DPK legacy IMO.

He is reason for the revolution of big pins, and the hit that is popular today. If you look at the Szam, Bala, Scruggs, Joss, you name it, the seem to have the piloted joint with that pin.

This includes tapers too. While "others" may tout their tapers, it is the DPK taper that was a revolutionized cuemaking.

For more examples of his work, try cueaddicts.com and search internet. He is working with Ed Young in Chicago, he worked with Bender on the Omega/dpk cues for a short while. While his work was revolutionary, his inlay work IMO is poor, and obviously his when you see it.

My recommendation is get one in one these forms, ie JF Southwest, Omega/dpk, or Kersenbrock as these will later be recognized as true collectables.
