Drawing on Autocad vs. Mastercam/Design?

You guys find any benefit of getting good at drawing with Autocad?
I'm slowly learning Autocad and find it quite fascinating.
Besides the possibility of drawing jigs and fixtures with ACAD, ACAD appears more extensive to me.

AutoCAD for Cues

I have provided AutoCAD drawings to cuemakers for them to build cues from. It seemed that it was "too much information" for most and I have abandoned the practice. I have done them with layers and different colors the whole nine yards.

My thought on it was... you can lead a horse to water...

LOL

I draw in Solidworks. Then I can export the drawing to Camworks if it is a inlay or something. Works great for license plates also.

> Is it true that you cannot generate your G/N codes from AutoCAD without buying a plugin program? It's not like AutoCAD 2004-5 isn't an expensive enough program, available by download online for something close to 3500,although I can get an older version for free locally. Has anyone tried the CAM programs, like Virtual Gibbs? That is what Donald at SouthEast Cues uses, with automatic G/N coding. Tommy D.

You can do all the drawing you need for in lnlays with the light version AutoCAD LT 2005 at about $600.00. AutoCAD does not generate g-codes as it is not a cam program but I find it much easier to export as a .dxf file to something like BobCAD and generate the g-code that way. I use BobCAD to simply define the tool size, path, speed and depth of the tool. The drawing is much easier in AutoCAD in my experience.

Joey, if there is any way I can help let me know. I've been drawing in AutoCAD for 10 years.

Thanks Wally.
ACAD is cool. I'm finding out just how cool it is by learning it step by step.
I just drew a house, 2d. LOL
