Drexeline Billiards this week is having all of their tables recovered with Simonis 760. The tables play jam up. The owner is a 350 ball running pro, and makes sure the equipment is top notch. There are 4 or so tables set up for one pocket with extended rails and tight pockets. There are 14 9' GC4's, 2 8' GC4's, 2 Diamond barboxes, and 2 Chevollete heated 10' Carom tables. About 3/4 of the tables are already recovered, with the remaining ones being done during the rest of the week. (The carom tables get the Simonis carom cloth, not the 760, and I think they will be recovered last).

Go check it out.

Address is;

The obvious question - what color? Simonis green or tournament blue? Can I assume the photo means tournament blue? We like to alternate between the two every time we re-cover in the fall, which is due to be tournament blue this time.

Yes, the picture is of the new cloth, and its tournament blue. I took the picture last night.

They switched to tournament blue (from green) maybe 10 years ago I'm guessing. I've been going there since 1996 or so.

One year, the installer ran out of blue for the last table, so he used green. It was a big difference, seeing them both new side by side. They both are great, IMO.

The owner changes the cloth regularly, maybe once per year, maybe a bit more frequently sometimes.

Hard to believe the installer did that - I'm guessing with the OK of the owner. You'd think they'd just wait a few days to order and get in enough blue cloth to finish the last table. I can only assume maybe the installer was brought in from far away and would not be able to get back a few days later. Nothing looks much stranger in a poolroom than having one table with a different color cloth than all the others.

No, it was all good! The owner told him to go ahead and do that. The players all thought it was kind of cool actually to see both side by side. That was years ago...

I’ll be in Philly the end of September for two days. Looking to play 1P

I visited the room once during an SBE trip with my son. Was a good mix of "players" and casual play. A kid that plays out of there is a good shooter, and great kid in general, Ivo. I think he would be maybe 14 now. If you know him, tell him Lazar from MA said Hi. His parents at least should remember me, we met a few times in various states during Jr events.

Have they always used 760 cloth or have they just gone to 760 this time around?

Do you know why they use the 760 as I always thought it to be a bit to fast?

Thanks

Kevin

You will have no problem finding one pocket action there. They have four dedicated one pocket tables.

I was there with my son last Sunday. We played on table 3 and it played great. Great room and great owner.

PM me and we can match up for some one pocket. I'll treat you to a real Philly cheesesteak at Jim's.

If you go, make sure you walk around the room and look at all of the memorabilia. There is so much old memorabilia on the walls and in cases that it will take you an hour to take it all in.

Only appropriate word after play is dud!

I haven't played a straight hour of pool in like 6mos and maybe 2 in 12. 25 or 6 to 4.

46 and 2 are enemies.

10-4.

25 or 6 to 4. You take me back to many nights in the late 60's at the Boulevard Social Club and leaving in the early morning because I couldn't go home. Haha.

It was always 760 since the early 1990’s except two times. The owner tried 860 once about 15 years ago. All the players hated it, because it was too slow. So he went back to 760. About 5 years ago he tried a Simonis knockoff. I forget which one. That lasted one recovering, and it’s been 760 since.

The players in this room are all serious and we prefer 760 for this room. There is a creek nearby, and I believe it makes the cloth slower. My personal opinion after playing in the Philly area for 25 years, is the speed in this room on 760 is equivalent to the speed in other Philly area rooms that usually had 860 on their tables. The main games in this room are one hole, 9 ball, and straight pool.

The carom tables always had Simonis 300 carom cloth on them.
