Can't find a cheap pantograph and can't swing a cnc at thie time but I want to put some circles (dots, whatevr) in the cues to dress them up.
I can drill some holes easy enough and would like to fill it with mother of pearl as they did in the good old days, Where can I find some MOP rod that I could use to fill the holes or is there another way to fill it after drilling it?
Any ideas?
Thanks

alot of places will sell you pre-made inlays. mascraft, schmelke, prather whatever

I would use a indexer on your metal lathe and mount a router with the right size endmill mounted on the carriage black epoxy in black material and bodda bing!

good luck man

you da man, man

I'm on the Prather site almost every week and never thought about their inlay section. Geeez... what would I do without youse guys?

They are commonly used in the guitar industry too. MOP and abalone being the most common. depending on the diameter, you may have to make sure they are thick enough. In general, The wider the inlay the thicker It needs to be.

Trent's link to Schmelke is for "Pearlized" ie plastic inlays.

I would strongly recommend you:

1. do a few plastic inlays before you try real Mother-of-pearl.

2. read up on working with MOP - the dust is extremely hazardous.

Herb. I cant remember if I replied or not but, I recieved your donation and message for the fundraiser. Thanks

Get a dremel tool and get a 3mm end mill and some real MOP 3mm dots and those should be easy enough to do.

Their stuff is real. I think Atlas sells the dots. I was just letting Herb know he might as well use the real stuff as cheap and available as it is.

The fundraiser that Chris Byrne referred to is a breast cancer fund.
I was on Ebay nosing around their charity sites when I found a reference to his efforts. That brought me to an AZ post by Brent Hartman who spoke about a his experience with a close friend who had recently passed away due to the ravages of breast cancer. That prompted me to say thanks in some way to him and Chris B for their assistance I sent a few bucks (no big deal) to Chris B's charity site via Paypal. I am sure Chris B can and should tell all out here in Az land about his efforts.
If you are asking about my charity work, I have a special love for homeless cats and dogs and have hitched my meager efforts to the Quncy Animal Shelter, a local group (all volunteer) who held to find homes for the many unfortuanate critters who end up in pounds or are simply put down. As I said to Chris B and Brent, I have so much appreciation for all the cuemakers out there who have helped and continue to help me improve my skills in cue making that I am constantly wondering what makes all you guys so giving of your information and talent to help me and others who work at this craft.
Man, this is a great group and I am proud to be a small part of it.
I may be a rokie cuemmaker but have been around business a long time.
Never found a better bunch of people.
Herb
