Circa 1990?
Me and Scott Wright were heading to Atlantic Beach, where his grandmother had a house two rows back from the beach. Man, I miss that place.
Anyway, we decided to detour through Vanceboro to see a poolroom there. Two tables and duct tape on the back rail of the front one. Well, when we arrive, there are five people playin' $2 and $2 on the duct tape table. Scott gets in and is up about $100 in the first hour. I mean he's killing the game. And....he's following the right guy. They called him Bug Billy. He worked for an exterminator company and had a lot of heart. Couldn't get outta the rain, but had a lot of heart. Well, the game breaks up after a "3" by Scott.
Bug Billy wasn't anywhere near through. "Gimme the seven and eight. I'll bet $10 a game."
Scott wins $100.
"Gimme the six, seven and eight."
Scott wins another buck.
"Gimme the five, six, seven, and the break. Race to eleven for $200."
Scott wins 11-8. Well, he's outta money. So, he goes out to his car and brings in a box. Calmly, he takes out a small automatic and points it to the ground and puts one in the chamber. "Guys, I'm sorry to have to do this, but I need that $200 back. No hard feelings, I just need that money for the wife's weekend at the beach. I'll give you directions to another poolroom and you can really make a score there. Sorry."
Well, Scott hands him the $200 back and we follow a drawn out map. Guess where it led? A small crop dusting airport just outside of town. So, just remember, when you get directions to a poolroom, think of Bug Billy. Cause you know he had to have the last laugh. We actually laughed too.
