I recently picked up 2 cues in great shape. I know red or green doesnt matter. (both mine are red leafs) one is purple heart, the other im not positive, but its highly figured! they are for sure great quality cues! but niether have any markings on the shafts like wieght stamps? they both have shorter style ferrules on them, and I believe a Lepro style tip. standard cone style bumpers. any way to tell year made? or at least any signs to look for? im just trying to get more info about these.

Search for an AZ member Mase (Roy Mason).
He lives in Toronto and purchased Dufferins stock when they closed their doors in Canada.

As for giving you an exact date, I doubt it other than giving you a approx date. If I remember, the use of either the Red or Green leaf doesn't peg down a date.

I have about 30 of these for conversion and Roy still has some left for a decent price for sale if I remember. Be good to get a few cause like the Brunswicks, when they are gone, they are gone.

Thanks!

I will look him up! you have been very helpful thank you!

They are the Dufferin Hi-Run one piece cues. Dufferin made a bunch of different one piece including Select, Eterna, Impact, Hi-Run Ash, Hi-Run, Regal, Executive and Professional. The Professional and Executive were ebony and the balance were various woods with Ash or Maple shafts. Most of their one piece cues were 57" (but they offered 42", 48", 52" and 59") and their Hi-Run was considered one of the best pool hall one piece cues available.

In 1997 the Hi-Run 57" retailed for $37.99 and wholesale price was $19.50. the most expensive was the Professional at $64.99.The cheapest was the Select at $25.99.

Thank you for the info Mase! how do you tell which model is what? Mine do not have anything on them?

I don't know what model or type of wood mine had, but I had them both made into Hustlers Cues and they both played great. Both were stole from bars. Johnnyt

He told you they were Hi Run models.
Probably based on that one is Purple Heart and maybe the other is a rose wood.

I have 2 Brunswick PH conversions and they both play very nice.

Both of yours will make great conversions. Find a cue maker close to you.

A couple of nice pieces of shaft wood with those will do the trick. You can either leave them rather sneaky or fancy them up a bit with black or brown linen collars and butt caps, maybe some ring work.

Both of mine are bumperless which look great on a sneaky.

Exactly what I plan to do! "Fancy Sneakies" I have a couple true sneakies already... ;)

Both are great playing cues.. the PH is 19.4 and the other is 20.7

I put a new Triangle tip on the PH last night, and she played extremely well! I'm officially impressed. BOTH ARE DEAD STRAIGHT! and who knows how old they are, or how they were treated in previous hands! :)

Already had offers, but I just dont wanna sell.... :D

Just to further Mase' reply a bit (some is from memory, my old Dufferin catalogs are in storage)

Select - I believe this was the same as the Eterna.
Eterna - This had a flat-faced, permanent joint, no splices
Impact - unknown
Hi-Run - The standard house-cue, often called the best house cue available. 4-prong splice with a maple shaft.
Hi-Run Ash - Same as the Hi-Run, but with an ash shaft.
Regal -
Executive - Hi-Run style, Ebony butt
Professional - Hi-Run style, Ebony butt, ash shaft and snooker tip.

Angico or Brazilian Rosewood.

Oh yes, I do believe the Select had a black-painted butt instead of the rosewood/angico. I'll have to go dig out those catalogs one of these days.

If you want to sell anyone of these two let me know. I intend to keep it as it is if you do sell. Thank you.

The Select was a black painted butt while the Eterna was a natural wood butt.
Impact looked like a Hi-Run but had a 1/8" black ring at the permanent joint.
Regal was a full splice snooker cue with a 2" maple splice in the butt.

Attached are a couple photos of the pages with the one piece cues. Hope you can see them all right.

Thanks for everything!

Thank you everyone for your responses!

With the info you have all provided me, It would appear to be the Brazilian Rosewood Hi-Run cue.

And the other is Purple Heart, also Hi-run.

One thing left for me to ask...

On almost all the pictures that I've been shown most the cues show that they have "Dufferin" + a weight stamp. Why doesn't either of mine? The shafts do not appear to have been modified?

Oh, and one more thing... what kind of ferrule? Its shorter then your average bar cue.

Thanks!

Don't know about the weight stamp but the ferrule is Fibre. Great ferrule material except that it can pick up moisture and expand.

Again... Thanks!

Can't thank you enough for all you help!

I wish only good things for you, and may all the table rolls be to your favor!

Mase -

Thank you for posting catalog pics of the one piece cues. Would you do the same for Dufferin's two-piece cues please? I am a Dufferin fan and would love to know what they offered. Thank you.

Rick
