Dufferin, whats the deal

What is the deal with the Dufferin conversion cues that so many people like to talk about. Just curious as to what makes these any better than the others. For instance, this one I have was a one piece bar cue that I had converted into a 2 piece cue. 3/8-10 pin with wood to wood joints. Also there is no insert in the shaft, so the butt technically screws into the wood. If u read close enough u can see it still says Dufferin 18oz close to the joint. I have rubbed it off over the years of playing the hustler game, LMAO. Yes the finish on my cue is cracking, but what do u expect from something that gets mistreated in the bar, hehe. It just blends in a little better.

Not sure who would try to tell you they are better than others

that being said there one piece bar cues and even some of there

2 piece cue were BY FAR better than any other stuff at that price point

i always wondered how seasoned there wood was when i first stared playing in the 80"s you could by 3 duffrin 2 piece cues for about $130
and a year later 1 would be straight or you coulda just spent the 130
on a viking mcdermot whatever and been done with it

I mean u just see so many sweet looking conversions made from a Dufferin. Just dont see why people would want to spend any money making it look any better, since its nothing special.

I just wanted mine to blend in better with the Hustling world. Atleast until u notice the shorty ferrule, LoL. It does play surprisingly well for a cheap cue. Im only ranked a 6 in APA, so its not like im too serious about the game, hehe.

also forgot to mention its a good item for newer cue makers to cut there teeth on or even the seasoned cue maker to make something affordable

I have a Dufferin Sugartree conversion. I love the balance and with Eric's shaft it plays perfect.

Good wood is good wood. Simplicity works, and it you find an older non-warped one, that hits good, not much more is asked of a cue other than taper preferences and maybe a wrap, and 57'' works too.

There hasn't been a new Dufferin Canada cue made in at least 7 years. So, if the cue hasn't warped, it'll probably stay that way and will make a good blank

FWIW, I heard George Balabushka started salvaging broken house cues them by putting on a joint and then giving to friends. He used Brunswick Titlist, a house cue from that era. I'm guessing if he started out today, he probably use Dufferins and Valleys too.
