Dumb questions on the forum

A good thing about this forum. You can ask dumb questions and most people don't know who you are. So here goes: I just started playing one pocket, I have only played about 10 or so games. What is a 10-6 spot? I think one player has to make 10 balls to win and the weaker player has to make 6 but there are only 15 balls?

Final score would be either 10-5 or 6-9, under this spot, if you're both playing for the last ball on the table.

You are correct, 10-6 is just what you stated. The idea with this spot is that you need one more ball than 15 in order to win, hence, you would have 5 max if the winner has 10 pocketed.

as a guide when playing even each go to 8
8=8 = 16
so when the spot score equals more than 16 the person giving the spot has to spot enough balll to make the count equal 16
for example
im playing you 20 -4
i run 8 and miss
i spot them up
now i need 12 you still need 4 =16
i make 11
you make 3
thats 14
one ball left and we both need one

When the spot is 10 -6 no balls need to be spotted.
Why because when you both need one ball at 9-5
that adds up to 14 and the last ball on the table wins.
So when the spot numbers add up to:
16 no balls spot
17 one ball spots
18 two balls spot
and so on

If you are playing even and both going to 8, no balls spot
because when you both need one ball the score is 7-7 and
that adds up to 14. So whoever makes the 15 ball wins the game.

If you're playing 10 to 6, when you have 5 balls and your opponent has 9 balls your both in the one hole meaning you both need 1 ball to win. This also means that 14 balls
have already been made so far and there is 1 ball left on the table. Who ever makes that ball in their pocket wins the game.

If the spot for a One-Pocket game adds up to 17 or more, as in your opponent is going to 11 and you are going to 6 still. Then the first ball your opponent makes would have to be spotted at the end of his inning, it still counts toward his score as he would only need 10 more balls to win. For when you both are needing one ball (meaning your both in the one hole) the score would be 10 to 5 and who ever makes that last ball on the table would win. The only reason there is a last ball for someone to make is because your opponent spotted the first ball he made, other wise the game could not work.

When the spot adds up to 17 one ball must be spotted.
For every ball the spot adds up to over 17 an extra ball must be spotted.

If I make 6 before opponent makes 10, I win?

Any spot that equals 16 doesn't need balls spotted. It is the same as a regular 8-8 game, just shifted.

A common dumb question on this forum is when someone asks for advice on where to play pool without offering any information about where they live.

Shit, I might be wrong...it appears that 8=8=16

Here's a go-by if you still don't get it.

No balls need to be spotted.
8-8 = even (first to 8 balls wins)
You can also have 9-7, 10-6, 11-5, 12-4, 13-3.

If the total sum equals greater than 16, then balls must be spotted to make up the difference.

dumb questions?

There are no dumb questions. Asking questions is one of the very best ways to learn.

I've answered thousands of questions here and on other websites, and always enjoy satisfying people's curiosity and interest when I can.
