Dumping - caught

It is the rest of the line they left out in the Color of Money movie......."Money won is twice as sweet as money earned.........Money fleeced is even sweeter"

I would say young and dumb is part of it...but that does not explain career fleecers......so I am going to go with...Lack of morals....Greed...and the lure of easy money....Oh....and of course the addiction of the dopamine hit. ;)
I think, fundamentally, losing is not an option.

The problem is whether you are on only the first or second layer of "in on it".

About 45 years ago, the local room champ was going to play the champ from the city and the fix was in. The locals bet on their guy knowing the champ was dumping. That's not how it worked out. The local room champ dropped out of sight after that.

I knew of a deal like that. The dump, double dump, back and forth it went! By the time of the game both players had money down both ways and the rail was a hopeless mess. One of the players disappeared for over five years, one just disappeared. Did he skip the country never to be seen again in those parts or did he try to swim with a jukebox around his neck?

The local mothers and fathers italian association had all the jukeboxes and cigarette machines in town under totally ridiculous contracts. When the jukeboxes were worn out and couldn't be rented they made good ballast!

They used to dredge under the Mississippi River bridge a mile or two from the strip every few years. I always wondered how many jukeboxes they dredged out of the river!

I considered buying a bar at a good price. When I read the contract on the jukebox and cigarette machine I backed off. The contract was valid as long as the place was a bar regardless of who owned it. It was also very lopsided. Probably not legally enforceable but the good hands people weren't worried about legally enforceable!

Things like this are the reason why I never bothered with the gambling side of pool. I've seen plenty of people get punched, stabbed, yelling matches start, etc literally right next to me as I'm just playing minding my own business. Unfortunately, it's one of those things that is so engrained to the game that it feels, specially from the people in this forum who have shared stories of their interactions at the pool hall, that you never actually played pool unless you partook in these activities.

In a weird way, and I'm not saying this as if it's a fact, some of you probably look down upon players who never placed a bet at the table.

People gamble at anything and everything that has a winner and a loser. A handful of couples came to the local dirt track every week without fail. I thought they were loyal fans. When I got to know them I found out they were devoted gamblers. They bet between themselves on every race. I was real popular with some when I won four weeks in a row!

I don't have answers but gambling isn't what is wrong with pool. When it became easier to gamble other ways it almost killed pool.

I have never been in a fight or even a shouting match gambling in pool halls. Fights in bars have always been over almost nothing in terms of money. Twenty-five cents to a few dollars! When the bets get larger you are dealing with experienced gamblers and they know the score.

I have to say, I have never weighed rather a person gambled or not in my opinion of them. As standard practice, I never gamble with friends. I have played JoeyA many times. We both gamble but have never bet even table time with each other. We are friends first, pool players and gamblers a distant second.

From what I have seen over the years, usually after you get the fed's attention the first thing you receive is a cease and desist letter. Smart people cease and desist and never do such a thing again.

You never know who is going to handle a case. One fed considers $5000 a major sum, another doesn't consider $500,000 a major sum.

One year the IRS decided I owed them $145.00. If you say so, I sent them the money. The next year they said they owed me $145. I told my tax man, no problem, they can keep it!

Some friends were making a little 'shine. The feds watched them make a million dollars worth, wholesale, then raided. Took five pick-up trucks, the big trucks belonged to U-Haul. Did a little more damage and fined them $5000 each, $25,000. Five years probation. I know of other people that did far less and did basically natural life as first offenders. Messing with the feds is like poking a bear with a stick, never know when you are gonna poke a tender spot.

I said from Day 1 that they were gonna be sorry because the Feds will come knocking. And Dunn is the corn in this shit 💩 stack!
