The opening matches were 100 points each. Germany’s Ralph Eckert drew early attention with his 100 ball
run in his 1-inning game against USA’s Dan Louie. Pete Margo, one of our greatest straight pool legends,
joined DiLiberto in the booth for that match.
Germany’s Oliver Ortmann stole the show with runs of 100, 100, 150, and 125 consecutively without a miss.
That’s 475 balls that encompassed four tournament matches. We have three of those matches in our
listing. Ormann’s 100 ball run against Israel’s Zion Zvi was exceptional, of course. Despite all of the high
runs in the event, Oliver’s perfect 1-inning 150-0 match against Earl Herring was such a powerful
performance that he consented to do a “Player Review” with Pat Fleming. “Player Reviews” are DVDs
that have commentary by Pat and a player from the match being reviewed. The instructional value is
unsurpassed. They discussed Oliver’s career, straight pool strategy, and explanations on break shots, key
balls, clusters, and much more. It is better than excellent. Don’t miss it!
France’s Stephan Cohen, our 2009 Predator World 14.1 champion went through the field undefeated. The
final match was breathtaking with an unbelievable comeback by Cohen. During that match, Mika
Immonen opened up with a 97 ball run, but Stephan never gave up, kept applying pressure, and marked up
consistent runs including his 51 and out to seal the deal. In his acceptance speech, Stephan credited his
success to the instruction and training advice from Accu-Stats’ commentator Danny DiLiberto.
Other standouts, of course, were Mika Immonen and Thorsten Hohmann who had their share of success,
with their high runs and only losing one match apiece.
Without a doubt, the event was exciting, replete with high runs and drama. The equipment was perfect:
Brunswick Gold Crown tables, Simonis cloth, Aramith balls, and the Laser Rack.
Danny DiLiberto was joined in the commentary booth with John Bender, Grady Mathews, Pete Margo,
Gerda Hofstatter, Max Eberle, Charlie Williams, and Peter Fleming.
