Love or hate 'em, you still have to respect the mans game. He is without a doubt one of the best EVER. His antics and tatics may be over the top sometimes but everysport needs a villan champion. Go EARL!!!

Controversy draws viewers.
Viewers attract sponsors.
Sponsors bring money.

When you look at it like that, Earl is a gold mine for game the of pool.

I say we should unleash him on the mainstream. In fact, he and Jimmy Mataya should have their own talk show, sort of like POINT/COUNTERPOINT. Hell, I'd watch it just to say I was smart enough not to miss it.

"I had to fight all my life to survive. They were all against me... but I beat them and left them in the ditch." -Ty Cobb
"When I began playing the game, baseball was about as gentlemanly as a kick in the crotch."

"He was the strangest of all our national sports idols. But not even his disagreeable character could destroy the image of his greatness as a ballplayer. Ty Cobb was the best. That seemed to be all he wanted."
-- Jimmy Cannon

Ty paid the price for success. He would practice sliding until his legs were raw. He would place blankets along the base and practice bunting a ball on the basket. During the winter he hunted through daylight hours in weighted boots so that his legs would be strong for the upcoming campaign. He overlooked no opportunity to gain an edge over his opponents, most of whom admired his drive to succeed

Earl and Cobb have many things in common. Both from the south, both legendary at their chosen fields, both completely driven to succeed, both very contraversial, and Cobb died in July of 1961....Earl was born in June of 1961....perhaps Cobb's soul entered the one month old Earl's body!

I wouldn't exactly say 'Goldmine'....that is more for Michael Jordan. He had one good day- and alot of bad Cuetec cues!

Guy is like Howard Stern, love him or hate him...both sides just keep watching to see what the hell he's gonna do next?!

Hmmm

One good day?? Really? He won 6 world championships and 5 US opens....Mosoni cups, 8ball championships, etc. etc. He had a pretty stellar HOF career, and will go down in the books as one of the best ever. And he's still competing with the best of this generation when he's pushing 50. Yeah, one good day......ok

I think he was talking about money RJ. Earl had the one big day at CJ's and a decent income for many years.

As strange as it my sound you might be right!!! as i hve had the pleasure of meeting both, playing softball in cornelia ga one nite big long caddy pulls up to fence everyone stops play and goes over none other than tye cobb he shook hands with us and you could tell by they he salked he still had a compative sprit in him, and he old man. then i played earl in athens ga tourny and he waxed my ass real good, jokinley i made him shoot in every 9ball -no gimmies, i told him earl i would give you some of those easy ones but the people came to watch you shoot, he laught and said that ok stick----TRUE STORY!!!!

Earl is great. Shane is great. Mika is great. Max is great. There are lots of greats & all have their own unique & interesting personalities. But the "professional" pool world hides it. Let these champions be who they are & put it on TV. Pool will be huge. If a show loaded with a bunch of loggers attracts millions of viewers with that little bit of drama, imagine what REAL pool would attract. But we'll never see it as long as games like TAR20 are being hushed by the industry because a few think it's embarrassing.
