Glad to see him doing good. He needed it after the Ralf S. match. When he's 'in' the game, nobody is going to beat him playing 9 Ball.
Earl HATES slow play. If he could control his temper, can you IMAGINE how many titles he have by now? .........(I said IF)

US Open ramblings.
The only thing slow about the play against Ralph Souquet was the time it took Earl to bet upset. Game two. Earl won game 1 and missed and easy 2 ball in game two and it was all down hill after that.
Ralph was taking his time, but only slow by Earl's standards.
Earl is playing with what looks to be a NFL 'wide receiver glove' on his back hand that holds a 'tennis racket' grip that is being used instead of a regular cutec wrap.
This isn't the worst I've seen Earl, in fact there has been some worse actions (but not on the TV table) here at the Open.
Silver Cup Chalk is one of the sponsers, and the chalk is all over the place. Masters Chalk is at a premium. During one match a player complained to the official that his opponent has an unfair advantage by having his own personal Masters chalk and was not willing to share. WhaaWhaaa... let em' whine.

I want to feel bad about slamming Earl in a previous thread, but Earl was totally classless and unprofessional in the match against Ralph and he deserved any criticism he received. For all I know he felt the backlash from his fans from that performance and decided not to act that way again during the rest of the tournament.

For whatever reason, Earl has adjusted his attitude at the table.
Maybe, he reflected back on comments from spectators and possibly
from other players. I am sure some of it got back to him, just as
Danny Basavich was aware of the crowd's displeasure with his slow
play at the WPC. BUT, I am a firm believer in the old saying,
"What goes around, comes around" or "It will come back to bite
you in the a**". Frankly, I think Earl's run at 'saving face' is over,
that he will not get past Bustamante. Like a lot of Filapinos, Francisco
is on the quiet side when playing, seriously intent on winning the match,
silmiliar in nature to Ralf.
What type of message would it send to the Billiard World and to
kids if Earl won the Open? That it is okay to act like a spoiled brat
as long as you are talented? You don't have to treat other people
with respect and dignity as long as you are entertaining. The heroes
are not the ones that reach for the spotlight all the time, the heroes
are the ones that are consistent in going about business everyday, and
strive to help other people to the best of their ability.

Are you KIDDING? No amount of good play erases Earl's shitty attituude. Nothing gives him the "right" to be a complete dick. I have been a jerk in the pool room, belittled my opponents, *****ed about the equipment, the air conditioning, the food, the tournament director, the rules, and still WON tournaments. The times I did that I made no friends, no one was happy to see me win, no one cared whether I lived or died, Nobody shared in my victory. My success was hollow and it felt that way.
Now, I make extra efforts to be nice when I am playing. The net result is that I feel better when I win, I feel better when I lose, and people don't mind hanging out with me.
One concept has been coming up a lot lately and it's very true. The only things you really have are what you give away. If all you do is give away negativity then that is all you have in your life.
IF Earl wins the Open then it's ONLY a testament to his GREAT talent, that's all. Maybe he got his meds right to keep his attitude in check. He STILL ripped of the fans who came to see him in hid match against Souquet.

Like onepocketchump said, he ripped us off (and himself) bigtime in the Souquet match, which prompted my thread. I've always been a fan of Earl's and what he's managed to do in the losers side is the Earl I paid to see! I'm very glad he's pulled it together, but it doesn't negate what he did against Souquet, and he should have been called on it and was. I'll be first in line to congratulate him if he wins and is gentlemanly about it.
