A friend of mine bid $900 on Earl in a players auction in Georgia at a Viking event. They play that you rack for your opponent. While Earl was racking he was calling the break ball for the opponent verbally and the ball went more often than not. Then he said, "You just have to know how to rack them." I think Earl wanted to leave and made it a little easier for his opponent. Well my friend says that is the last time he bids on Earl in a players auction.
I believe these type situations to be a huge fault in pool. Years ago
I went to Atlanta to a Pro event my buddy( bb from athens) was playing in.
Well he draws Buddy Hall the first round. He beats buddy and I heard someone say "thats the last time we see Buddy this weekend". They all laughed like they knew it was true. Buddy did not show for his next match and by then I had learned that Buddy had a habit of doing this.
Well until then I was a Buddy Hall fan. I loved his style and his play. Since then I root for his opponnet.
There are others and more situations like these. The players need to realize that THEY are the tour. Its not what someone else is going to to FOR them.
Not getting paid in an event is one of the worst but it seems alot of fans and players dont see it that way. Thats a shame. No reason for anything
drastic but until debts are paid I dont think a player should enter an event
by that promotor.
In the music world many performers demand payment before performing.
They know the promotors games.
Someone should be held accountable in all situations. Whether its Earl
or not.
