Earl Strickland vs. Darren Appleton May 6th, 7th and 8th

After some initial safety play, Darren is at the table, the layout is not easy here. Couple balls near the rail.

They're having to play off the rails a lot for position. Darren runs out to get back a game. 4-3 Earl.

I'll be gone in an hour and a half, if someone wants to take over commentary then.

Thank you sir !

I missed the beginning of this rack, there was some safety play, but earl returned the table to Darren for a shot on the one and is likely not getting out of this lock up.... yep, he didn't get the kick. Darren is up not, going for the run-out. Don't know if 3 foul rule is in play here or not. The 40 second shot clock sure is. It really adds pressure.

Daz makes a great runout. This table doesn't seem to bother him too much. We're tied at 4-4

Beautiful!!!

Darren breaks dry, but leaves Earl a tough shot. Earl half hardheartedly shoots a safety, which Darren unsuccessfully returns. Balls are locked up in the lower right corner. Everything else is open. Darren loses this safety battle with a missed kick, clearing the problem in the corner. Still not an easy runout for Earl. He rattles the 3 in the aforementioned corner. Darren makes the 3, and tries to hide the 4. Doesn't. Earl returns it nicely, and with the shot clock running down, Daz makes a nice kick, but leaves the 4 center table.

Earls cleans up for the lead. 5-4

It's neck and neck here. Earl breaks, and nothing goes. Safety battle on the 2. Darren makes a great kick into the 2 and sinks it!!! Plays safe on the 3 and regains control. 5 and 7 are frozen or close to the rails, but Daz should be OK here. Playing the angles nicely. Runs out like Forrest Gump.

5-5

They're using a magic rack, but with no side pockets it's tough sink anything. Balls clustered among the long rail make for a nice barrier to play safe with.

Several errors from both sides have occurred so far in this rack both in safety play and offensive shooting. Daz ends up with control. He runs out again.

6-5 for the first time the lead has shifted to Darren.

Darren up to break, the 1 goes several rails around and into the lower left corner. He missed a short distance shot on the 2 ans gifts the table to Earl. Earl has no problem and look to be running out when he too misses a short distance shot on the 5 trying to preserve the angle on the 6!!

Darren is back and taking his time. Runs out methodically up until the 10 and dogs it! Leaving Earl frozen on the end rail with the ten mid table. Earl fires it in! It's actually a very similar shot to what he was practicing earlier before the match start.

6-6

Darren, trapped on the one takes a foul. Earl with ball in hand fights back, but almost hooks himself trying to break up a problem . Masses to make the 3, banks in the four and runs out. Some temper was showing from earl with his frustration, but he shot well through it.

7-6

The Pearl breaks, but leaves no shot on the one for Darren, who plays a push. Earl gives it back as the clock runs down. No time to sit for Daz. Back and forth on hiding the 1 ball for quite a few turns at the table here. Earl finally takes the foul. The 6 is a potential problem here. Darren uses it to play a nice safe behind the 9 near the long rail. Earl returns it with a sweet kick to safety freezing it to the bottom rail. and hiding the whitey. Earl runs to the 8 and jaws it! Slapping his cue on the table. I don't know how that tip even stays on...

7-7

8-7 Darren

Earl screwed up position on the 8 after a tough run. Instead of being frustrated, he applauded Darren's effort in clearing the table. Glad to see his sportsmanship.

Next rack the ten is hovering on near the lower right corner off the break... what will happen?

Darren is playing amazing position on this run after regaining the table from Earl. He claims the first set!!!

9-7 Darren

How many sets are they going to play per night?

It says best of 10 on the flyer (whatever that means), so I'm guessing 3/3/4.

Once Earl took the second set, Nick said that guaranteed they play on Sunday, and there can be a tie ?

Freddie <~~~ Go Earl! Go Daz!

They will play 3 sets each night from what i understood.. first set went to darren 9:7, which was reversed in the second: 9:7 for earl. Darren missed a standard 8 to get on the hill...

call shot, 10 ball spots always! meaning it has to be played at last, but u can obviously continue after a combo on the 10. magic rack is being used by a mutuale racker.

earl down 7:1 in the third.. might be over soon for the night...

It is 1 set each right now.

It is 8 - 2 Darren in the third set (race to 9). They are playing 3 sets tonight total.

EDIT: Darren just won the third. So it's 2 - 1 Darren after the first night.
