Hans,

If you can get some close-up pics of your 1968 cue, I bet there's some guys on here who can help identify it...one in particular comes to mind...and I bet he'd love to see some more pics of it!

Jason

The 1968 cue looks to me like a Sampio that someone did some conversion work to. Better pics would help if you're interested in ID help.

No need for better pics buddy. It is a Sampaio Premier Series conversion.
Nicest conversion I've seen to date.

Cool cues, thanks for showing off.

That's almost definitely not a Sampaio or Sampaio conversion though. Numerous similar cues were made by various manufacturers. I would love to see some closeups of the cue including the joint, bumper, butt sleeve, etc.

I'll say right now that I have seen similar cues of that era come from Europe with the Elton brand name on them. At the moment it could be almost anything but I highly doubt it is a Sampaio.

What makes you so sure it's not a Sampio conversion? I've seen a lot if similar carved cues as well but the pattern and depth of carving looks Sampio to me. I'm just curious how you are so sure it isn't from one tough to see picture.

Marcus,
The cue even has the shield that is typical of Sampaio cues.
Sampaio is the only Portuguese cuemaker that ever made it to the blue book. He's the only Portuguese cuemaker that also made his own billiard tables and calculagraphs as well.

Because the pattern of the carving actually looks nothing like the Sampaio to me.

In addition, I remember seeing cues like this from another company....without conversion or modification. As I posted, I believe that company was Elton but am not sure. I have to ask myself, would somebody modify a Sampaio to look like an Elton? I doubt it.

There are indeed some very nice Sampaio conversions out there. But I am reasonably certain it is not a Sampaio.

But of course, you could be right. I don't deny it. But I don't think so.

Again, many cues that are not Sampaio have the shield and similar carving. I can post examples if you wish.

Incidentally Sampaio wasn't a "he" so much as a family name and a business.

With that said, I don't have a bluebook...but I have a lot of it memorized. :D

EDIT: Here is an example of a cue that IS NOT a Sampaio: http://www.ebay.com/itm/26099254865...AX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648#ht_500wt_1287

Then again, another one that recently sold for chump change on Ebay (well under $100) that was not a Sampaio Premier but looked like a copy of one one was actually a very minty vintage early 70's Adam cue. Most people just didn't know what they were looking at or the bidding would have been much higher.

Another pic from the old cheap cue, the price was 21,50 Netherlands Gulden
incl. a bag at that time. No labels on the cue and i put some stones in during 1976 and later a small Lamborghini metal sticker.
Thanks for your replies but this cue has only sentimental value.

The other cues are a Meucci 21st Century 3 - no crap - and at top a cue
from the german cuemaker Peter Ernst with an airbrushed white Lamborghini
Countach Theme.

Sometimes sentimental value is the strongest anyway. I think it's a cool cue.

Thanks for showing all of them.

Yes my friend Chopdoc and here are the buddys of my first cue ( Nr. 16 from right )

NICE!

You do understand that you have no room to actually play pool on that table......I love it! LOL!

The Earl cue is sweet too. You have the story, the cue, and the pics. Beautiful.

Hello Nick, its now 12 years ago, but i remember a 13mm shaft with
no standard ferulle and a weight around 19 oz.
The finish of the cue was 5-times better than standard and the cue rolls
even today laser straight.
Meanwhile i installed a Kamui Black SS tip on it, but never reach the
quality of draw shots like the first owner - Mr. Strickland himself

Hope this helps...
Hans
