Early TAD?

I enjoy these threads. The people it pisses off the most are the same ones you will see relist the cues on az for god knows how much more after they win an auction (which is by all means their right to do so). It will sell for what its worth, regardless.

TaD!

To all you TAD experts: I see that the boxes in the butt sleeve are mitered joints. I only recall the veneers being stacked.

I'm not a Tad expert but I play one on TV. There are Tads with mitered veneers. Here's one of mine.

There you go. IDing Ariels is obviously beyond the scope of my knowledge.

Doesn't change the fact that anybody that bids on the possible maybe but probably not TAD this thread is about is putting their money in grave peril, not to mention the 8 years bad luck I hear is attached to some eBay actions.

Thanks

Kevin

Another helpful way to id Ariel's TAD tributes is that out of respect for TAD, or so I'm told, Ariel flips the order of the classic black-orange-green ring colors so they are different than the genuine TADS.

best,
brian

Thanks man. Before the mods came down with the rules, these For Sale threads used to be chock-full of helpful information. Nowadays, its only OK on threads about non-member's cues.

That "out of respect" dealy assumes you can respectfully build a "tribute" to a living maker using a design that maker currently uses.

Thanks for that man, hope you are well

Kevin

Oh man, now the eBay cue is out of the "not a TAD" status in back into the "probably not still be careful I wouldn't bid if I were you" status. Of course, maybe you just proved that your great old TAD is not a TAD.

Thanks

Kevin

that guy won't ship, that's one big reason he still has that cue, if he owns it at all

That's one reason for sure.

Another might be price.

I can think of at least one cue dealer in the Cinci area that wouldn't shy away from spending 3.5K if the price is right and several collectors.

Is the case a Harvey Martin? Look like it to me. Then again if he doesn't post a picture of it with todays paper, its probably fake.

Thanks to a member that knows way more about cases than me, I'm pretty sure its an Adams. Which makes sense, TAD liked the Adams product.

When jayman talks (especially about Adams) smart people listen:

I wanted it to be a Martin and even more than I wanted it to be a Martin, I wanted it to be a TAD "tribute" Martin case. Alas.

interesting looking case too. Any guesses as to what kind of case that is?

Definately not a Harvey Martin...for sure. Adams as Kevin stated.

Does anybody think that the personalization with the owner's initials greatly devalues the cue? I wouldn't want to own a cue with someone else's initials. No way to remove that from the Derlin as in is imprinted. You can remove the black ink, but the imprint is still there.

The rubber bumper is not period correct for a tad. It does appear to be a Tad bumper but not for a pre 80's Tad.

My two cents.

He bought it from a lady in his home town who's old man passed about 6 months ago. He thinks it's worth $3500, he is dreaming and I told him so. He still won't bite at $2500. It need a complete overhaul by Fred Kohara. Anybody else touches it, it becomes firewood.

I think he paid much under $1000, so he should just take the money already.

I like your number on that cue.

Does anybody here have a Tad that used that same blank for the forearm?

I don't now (just my style) but I have. Interesting that the veneers in the butt frames (made by TAD) don't match those in the arm.

What are you thinking?
