Ok, so, I had this left in a 9-Ball rack a little while ago. I would have bet years ago I would have tried to pull the CB back with some low right to around where the yellow CB is and try and make the 6-Ball in the corner. But one of the things Nick Varner told me was to play percentages. I am sure Nick would have said to just drift the CB across in front of the 9-Ball to around where the red CB is, gently pocket the 6-Ball in the side, and you should have an easy out on the 8-Ball and 9-Ball.

So, after studying this layout, I decided to hit the CB with a tip of right, about 1:30, and I got to where the red CB is. Eased the 6-Ball into the side, and the 8B and 9B were simple. Whereas before I would have got mad when I missed position on the 6-Ball by trying to come back with low right.

I would love to see the stoke to hit a cueball at 1:30

Nick is absolutely right in stating to play the percentages. I do not think that he would state to play the 6 in the side. The six in the side is a much smaller target area to get into, and therefore a lower percentage. Miss the target area a little short, and you now have a much tougher eight to play.

Drawing back to the yellow ball is the correct way and higher percentage play IMO.

It might not be exactly right on the diagram but there was no doubt it was the higher percentage shot. If you would have been there I think you would have agreed.

why not high inside, go 2 rails to get behind the 6. send it to top left corner, natural shape rest of the way out

Not sure what I would have done in this situation, guess it depends on how I'm shooting at the time. Both shots are good, what you did and what you didnt do. Both have there positives and negatives.

I don't understand... This is a very common and simple shot. Make the one in the top corner and slide into the side rail right next to it stopping a little past the middle of the table.

So much can go wrong shooting it the way you did - a little short and you run into the 8(on next shot) long and end up jacked up over the 8 or froze to it. Yellow ball is by far the best option.

That is not the 1

If you really think Nick would tell you to play it that way this may be a case where you are better off watching him play then listening to his thoughts.

Again, the diagram can be misleading. I really believe if you would have seen the layout in person you would probably agree the 6B into the side was the best option.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Why did you ask? Lol

6 in the corner gives you a huge window, 6 in the side does not, especially with the 8 there as your next ball.

If you can't get to the yellow ball spot you're probably only 50% or less to get out anyway...if that's you're playing speed. JMHO

Mike...Nope...6 in the corner all the way! Much larger margin of error for both pocketing the 6 and getting position on the 8, for an easy shot on the 9. Your way, even though it worked, is 4-5x more likely to run into trouble, ending up long or short, bumping other balls, etc. KISS rules...and the 6 in the corner is KISS.

Are you still planning to go to Evansville tomorrow?

Primarily going to focus on the straight in shots. But there are a couple of other things I want to run past him.

I am getting to that championship level no matter what it takes. One thing I should probably do is spend more time at the table and less time on the computer.

LOL, championship level. Seriously, you draw this shot up like it's something to be proud of. Shit is routine. If you played in any form of competition you would know that.
