eBay Mystery Cue

Looking for thoughts on this mystery cue.

The seller came across a nice cue collection. Did some good research, and got some good money, but I believe this one slipped through.

I’m sure some will think Adam. Others will think Viking. I believe it’s a custom. Can’t get it out of my head.

I also think import....
Years ago,
I bought a really nice S/W copy off of ebay-no name on the cue-looked really good and was crafted quite well
Local cue maker was CERTAIN USA CUSTOM-MADE....searched for about a week here on az and other cue makers....
Turned out to be CONFIRMED ASIAN IMPORT- "TAI CAN CUE".
they made really nice s/w style cues....
couple hundred $$ w/ 2 shafts and excellent quality,
but that company went away.

Was that KC Cues, I know they were churning out really nice, cheap Southwest copies.

Some of those SW copies were sold under the 'Licos' name. Like DR said made at the Taican(now Hamson-Universal) factory. IIRC the 'KC'( became KaiserCues) cues were made by KaoKao in Taiwan. The Licos/Taican versions were better made.

the veneer work in those boxes is very rough, as much as I hate saying this phrase and channeling my inner Garczar...

Asian Import....
No custom builder or high end production cue company is going to do boxes that rough.
Definitely an Asian import, low end at that.

Looks like a KaoKao Taiwan cue. Looks to be pretty well made.
Weren’t they originally Kao Fa cues? If so they sponsored a tour at one time. They were making cheap imitation SW Cues for a couple hundred bucks apiece when they first showed up.. If that is the same company..

Tony Crosby was involved in that tour along with GYK. He and I had some chats about Kao Fa cues. He had some interesting comments about working with them.
Tony tried to help me with a situation I had with them. He tried to resolve things so kudos to him he’s a straight up good guy in my books! Kao Fa not so much…

KaoKao and KaoFa are two diff. outfits. KaoKao makes the Kaisers/KC cues. KaoFa cues were 'KF' not KC. They still make SW clones. https://www.poolcues.com.tw/kf-products/ Kaiser SW-style cues are still made but J&J rarely has them anymore.

I disagree:

I’m usually ok with ruling-out Asian import when I see a derlin butt cap.

You can also see that one of the shafts has an ivory ferrule.

It’s an old cue. That shaft could be a relatively newer addition, but who has a $200 shaft made for a $30 cue?
