Ebay Question

This is my first time listing something on eBay and I wasn't sure if the question I received from another person, with regards to my auction, is normal.

I received the following question from SDCOWBOY1966:

No Reserve? Starting price $350. Hello!!!!!!!! That's a $350 minumum reserve first bid.

Not sure, I went back and read the eBay glossary and it is defined as a starting price. I've seen many people start their auctions in this manner and I honestly saw nothing wrong with it. I asked him if he asked this question of everyone else.

Hello!!!! I didn't respond by telling him that minimum is spell incorrectly and what was he thinking by adding that extra freaking "u" in there. Is this a normal part of doing business on eBay, or this guy just out to bust my balls?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Takio

HE MAY BE INSINUATING THAT YO ARE ASKING TO MUCH. WHAT IS THE ITEM NUMBER. I'M AN EBAY JUNKIE, I'LL TAKE A LOOK AT IT FOR YOU, AND SEE IF YOU DID EVERYTHING RIGHT.

good listing

The guy is a retard. I know for a fact that particula model was right around 350 at a 50% discount because I was offered one for 375 by a turing pro that likes me alot he was going to make baasicly nothing on me. It wwas new and unplayed so if yours is straight solid and clean your starting price is super fair. Nick --that cue retails for 725-755 if I rember right good playing sticks Just ask the Stone Man!

You are too cheap, not too high. Don't worry about the jerk.

The Pechauer PS16 has a retail price of $620 with one shaft. You have 2 shafts and Pechauer JPs with yours,. Extra shaft is $125 and JP's are $45, so that is $790 retail.

No matter how you discount it, $350 as a start is a helluva deal.

Seems like a nice price, pretty tribute cue...

a local pool hall has Varner cues listed for $400 now that is a rip off!! Its funny he has a lot of cheap Varners in this one case, but he slipped one of em in with other custom cues to make it look more valuable cuz it was detailed...

One problem for this guy is that his house cues were Varner basic cues that you had to rent... so now anyone that goes into that hall already know that the cues are crap! The hit on those cues was even worse because he glued the 2 pieces together on the rentals... kinda stupid this guy... lol

It sounds like the guy gets annoyed with sellers boasting "no reserve" when the starting price is high. And I agree. A no reserve auction should start for pennies and let the market dictate price. In effect, your starting price is a reserve.

I understand your point that he in effect has a reserve price by setting a starting price, but i think there's a huge difference between setting a reserve and setting a starting price. With a reserve you have to guess at what bid will be actually get you the product and a lot of the betting that occurs is moot because it is all below the reserve. When the seller sets a starting price every bid will count. In addition, there is less of a chance of the seller stopping the auction early as they might if they never set a starting price. Personally I like the way this auction was set up and I have no problem with them advertising it as a No Reserve auction.

those cues are really under rated

I really think if I were to play with a production cue it would be something likt that cue but I would chose the production shaft not the predator option offered by JP. They hit with a very solid feel and are very under priced on the secondary market. I gave a 2 shaft price. My buddy that plays with those cues is steady running 4 to 6 racks of 9-ball.He has a monster break but he gets out with a Peachour. Good testimonial I say. Nick

Nick is right on about the hit of this cue. The JP self aligning joint produces a real nice, firm hit. The PS16 is sort of a Balabushka tribute cue...the veneers are very nice, IMHO.

As for listing with an opening bid vs a reserve, I think it is a very honest way to go. You know what the minimum is that the seller wants without guessing, and it is no reserve, in that if you bid the low opening price, you will win the cue. I know a lot of folks want you to put it out there at $1 with no reserve so they can pick it up for nothing, but the seller is entitled to set his minimum acceptable bid, and if it is too high for you, just don't bid.

Some people seem to think that just because a product is being auctioned on eBay it should go for next to nothing.

With that guys thought process, if you had started bidding at $1.00, he could still have said you had a "minumum reserve first bid", and he more than likely would have bid on it. That said, the issue with him was the price, not "reserve". Obviously he's too cheap to pay a fair price, or possibly ignorant of the value of cues on the secondary market. Either way, don't let him upset you.

obviosyly your minumum bid is 350 and the no reserve part is that you expect it to sell more then that.. how much more? it doesnt matter you have no reserve... i do agree with everybody else that this guy is a jerk is busting your balls.. i had a guy email me one time about a meucci i was selling and he laughed at my price, i had it listed for what i wanted for it was fixed price auction and he said some things.. i told him.. thanx for the kind words.. another jerk.... i think some guys get their rocks off just busting peoples balls on ebay..

AMEN!!!!!!

Just wanted to say thanks to all of you for the input.

I guess there is truth when you guys say that he wants the cue for next to nothing. I have bought cues before on eBay and this being my fist time selling a cue, it's given me a whole new perspective. We learn as we go.

Thanks
Nelson
