Is there anyone else that is fed up with the cues being sold on e-bay? Every cue I buy seems to have some issues that are not disclosed in the description. The latest was refinished, and terribly at that, and not mentioned. The seller says he is well known and sells alot of cues. But his expert response to me bringing it up was, oh I didn't know it was refinished! I will not buy another cue from e-bay unless it is from a well known seller. Just venting a little.

If the description of the cue was misleading, I believe you can open a dispute with ebay, seeking a refund from the seller. Did the seller offer you a refund? A complete accurate and honest description of products on ebay is no longer the norm and unfortunately is now affecting some cues listed on ebay. Its buyer beware nowadays.

It wasn't in the description at all. He just says the cue is perfect.

ebay

I've had the same thing happen before. I mostly sell and not buy on there but even on a cue straight out of a cue makers shop I dont list as perfect cause the person looking can find something. I try to disclose whatever I see. Tons of people always ask what the cue does when you roll it, I hardly roll cues, even my own, first thing I do is put it together, hit a ball and listen to the sound it makes. anyhow, better luck next time

Was it a high end cue?? :D Thanx Aaron 815-243-1101

I would pretty much only buy high end cues on ebay that will submit to a proficient billiards escrow service. The seller should not have any problem with this if what he says is true. The only downsides is that the seller waits a few extra days for his money, and the buyers pays $50 for piece of mind.

This is a small price to pay to get what you expect.

Regards,

Doug

It was a middle end cue. I am going to send the cue to the maker and have him look at it. More $. I learned from this.
Thanks

Even the best seller misses things. I think the best hope is to look for a decent return policy, even for the good sellers. Frankly, in my bidding I am to the point where I always make an allowance for a decent refinish if i want the cue to be right.

I've found it's very difficult to tell what will turn people off. As a seller, I always remind the buyer that I will take the cue back for a complete refund. I just want them to be aware of it. I want them to be relaxed and not panic if the cue doesn't meet their expectations. People see things, real or imagined, that are important to them. I've learned that the same cue can be loved by one buyer and reviled by another.

I bought a Paradise on E-Bay from one of those auction franchises 'I sold it" - a very rough one for about $1400. I knew it was very rough, but the sellers were confident it just needed refinish work. There was a section of the points where it looked like there was some kind of staining. I asked about it, and they said it looked like the dye had bled in the clear. They also said it was straight. I went ahead and bought it because they did have a return policy.

When the cue came in, I was pretty sure the veneers had pulled up a long time ago and a big section was broken off. I was pretty sure the point had been filled with colored putty. It was also noticably warped. There was no way to tell if the repair could be repaired correctly unless the cue was sanded down, but I didn't feel like taking a $1500 gamble - so I returned it for a prompt refund.

Sometimes you have to ask a lot of questions. Maybe something like "who refinished the cue and what is your return policy? "

I wonder how many of these people spray it in their own garages with a spray can?

My rules for ebay is , I only buy from people I "know" from this forum or in person. If it doesn't meet that guideline I have a dollar amount i'll spend on a cue regardless of what it is. Since I generally only buy beatup McDermotts or sneakies it's pretty safe. To me it's not worth the risk to spend big dollars on a new cue off the bay when for a little more money I can get it from a reputable dealer. I don't buy to resell unless I know someone at my hall is looking for a specifc cue.

I had the opposite situation from vinnie. Sold a cue in July and the buyer comes back at me 3 months later saying I scammed him with an incorrect description. Seems he was given an incorrect opinion on the authenticity of the cue by its maker.

After straightening out the misunderstanding and proving in writing that my description was 100% accurate, the buyer still accuses me of a false listing and berates me for not knowing what I was selling.

For me, buying any cue of value is best done with people I know or can verify through all of you on AZB.

For buying cues Ebay can suck it!

If you want a cue for life call a maker tell them what you want and get what you pay for. Also Vinnie I lost your phone number could you PM it to me! Ebay is $hit unless you know the seller,
Nick

If you don't mind me asking, what is wrong with a refinished cue? Its back in the "new" state?

I have a Stroud that was horribly finished directly from Bill....new that is. I was thinking of sending it back to him after 5 years of play but he just won't give me the time of day. I think he said 350 then hung up on me or something :) But I am sure there are other people that can make my Stroud look better than new.

So, I don't really get it.

Let me know what you think,

Thanks

John

John,
That's the problem. Whoever refinished the cue did a terrible job. The clear has a bunch of imperfections in it. I talked to the maker and he is going to do it right.
Thanks

How about this one....

I just bought a cue on eBay that was described as 19 oz., "no metal parts" (a Karella with a wooden screw coming out of the shaft), with joint protectors and a cue case. When the cue arrived, it had a flat-faced joint with a metal scren into a brass insert, there were no joint protectors or case, and the cue weighed 18.1 oz. Oh, the weight bolt was loose and the LePro tip was barely attached. I replaced the tip and tightened the weight bolt. The seller would have refunded my money, but I decided to just keep the cue and resell it. Anyone want a new Karella KF3?
