What does ebony bring in terms of hit, weight, stiffness. I currently play with a Mezz ZZSP but have a strange feeling I might like ebony all the way. Anyone got any input on this?

Ebony is 3 times more dense & heavier than Maple. It is going to affect the hit & feel of the cue...JER

If i prefer a stiff solid hit, would this wood suit me? I like SS joint!

We've discussed this here before. The hit is affected mostly by a combination of the tip, ferrule & taper of the shaft. The butt material has some affect on the hit, but less than the others I mentioned...JER

Ebony will give you a much stiffer & harder hit than maple. While I agree the tip, ferrule, etc. all play a role, you still cannot ignore the effects of the cue's wood.

I had a guy bring me a ebony cue , including ebony shaft . after coreing both butt and shaft , brought weight from 27.2 down to 21.9 . he shoots with it every night and loves it . Back of shaft cored only 5-6 inches . Butt cored with maple full length . Diametors turned down a lot also . Very stiff hit . Jim

I made a couple, and will make more, 6-pie ebony butts. It is not cored. The butts by themselves weigh just about 15oz. Cue has my 6-pie radial shaft on it, 12.75mm with Kamui M. tip. Does not play super stiff and pretty much disappears in your hand and to me is one of the best hitting cues I have ever made. So either this shaft is the best playing shaft I have ever made or the butt also has something to do with how a cue plays....
