Ebooks

I went to bn.com and searched "BILLIARDS" in the nookstore and came up with these titles:

You can go into any Barnes and Noble and read ANY e-books for free for two hours everyday. Once you find what you like, you can buy whatever you want. Plus the staff there at the store can help you if you're having any problems.

DISCLAIMER: I work for Barnes and Noble. :)

By the way, while you're there, the pool and billiard related books are all in a small section called "GAMES" next to the Humorists section of the store.

For those that would like to read books on their computer, the NOOK application is available from Barns & Nobel for FREE.

It is the same application that the NOOK uses to purchase books/magazines/newspapers and other offerings. You can use it to read at your desktop computer or your laptop.

Some of the google books can be downloaded as PDF files and printed out.

Lol. I know. I work in publishing so I have an iPad. But frankly, I have no real use for it outside of work. It's an iphone that doesn't make call OR fit in my pocket. When I want to read, I like a good book.

I'll admit that e-readers are extraordinarily convenient, a phenomenal tool, as well as a growing trend (one that is likely only going to get bigger). But I'm just old fashioned. lol

I agree I like real books more but like the connivence and being able to save a couple bucks

The iPad, along with the current generation of smart phones have as much computing power as a desktop computer from 11 years ago. According to one article, an iPad has more processing power than a Cray super computer from 1985.

If you like to hear more, I'll be more than happy to elaborate. These things aren't just phones and modern day etch a sketches. If the book is 70 years or older, its likely in public domain.

So I bought jeanette Lee's book on the nook. While was an good read and had decent information. No matter how i formated it read on my Nook or iphone the Diagrams appeared randomly in the book so i had to search back to see what they were refenceing. I dont know if it was an issue with the reader or if its how the book was formated. Hopefully I can find some ones that take to the ereaders more fluidly.

We could start a thread for the plot of story using billiards as the main character device.

Billiards would be the escape for the main character, I nominate Earl Strickland as the character for the story. Earl will get into lots of trouble.

We could write the character in three stages, young, rising up and established.

For starters Earl can be the guy who does everything wrong but all the right things happen to him. The first situation could be Earl deciding between playing billiards or working as a cook. The challenge for a writer is to come up with a reason for why Earl goes from cook to billiard player.

Typical solutions are after work relaxation, family member drew him into billiards or his girlfriend was into it.

The end plot point is to get Earl to some endpoint possibly the IPT or some other pro billiard peak like tournament organizer.
