How in the world can I save private messages when I am close to the limit of 70? I have trashed maybe 50 messages in the last few months and still I am close to 70. I want to save some of them because there is some great info that others have generously shared with me. Thanks, Lou.

Scroll to the bottom of your 'private messages' page.
There is a feature titled, download private messages.
It offers 3 different formats in which you can download to your PC.
Pick the one you like and download your messages.
Once on your PC, you can delete everything in your in-box and start over.

Until something better comes along

Save the messages that you are about to delete in a word document on your PC. Most of the format should be preserved as well. I like the method mentioned above better.

you can also take a look at sent messages if you haven't already done so. take a club membership and that'll double your pm capacity.

Like KJ said.
I download as txt files now.
I have lost them before, but have organised them as
inbox-messages-date
sent-messages-date
I use the saved date and clear the PM boxes.
Then you can easily search these text files to find something.
Often people do PM valuable information, that pays to keep for later.

Another, though old-fashioned, way to keep any significant PM's is to just print them out on paper! Delete the rest.

And I second the suggestion of becoming a member and, thereby, increasing your PM mail box size.

Saving Private Messages offline

One drawback of the private messaging feature is the lack of a good way to permanently log all your contacts about cues, specs, orders, etc. and have a permanent record of correspondence with your customers.

The suggestion to save private messages to a text file certainly works, and is the first step to the following alternative.

VBulletin Reader is a program to browse your private messages saved on your computer; it works just like an email program such as MS Outlook.

After you have downloaded and verified that everything is working on your computer, you can clear your PMs on AZBilliards because you'll have them on your computer.

I always run a virus scan after downloading anything from the internet, but either site should be safe. The second site appears to be the developer's website.

Well, I guess you could do that too.
But then, you're known to be a creative guy.

Is there a way to either copy all or a lot of the old posts that contain valuable information on AZBILLIARDS from the ask the cuemaker section?
thanks as always, JerseyBill

At the top of every page, just before the first post, are 4 boxes on the right-hand side of the page. These are drop-down menus.
SAVE - THREAD TOOLS - SEARCH THIS THREAD - RATE THIS THREAD
Click on THREAD TOOLS, click on 'subscribe to this thread'.
This takes you to a page where you can 'Add Subscription'.
This will save the thread to a folder which you can access from your control panel - USER CP.
Once in your control panel, there are a list of functions on the left side of the page. Scroll down to "List Subscriptions".
Click on it to open the folder containing all of your saved subscriptions.

I'm not sure how many threads you can subscribe to but at least your favorite threads will be saved until a time when you can 'copy/paste' the pertinent info to a folder on your PC.
Once copied to a folder on your PC, you can delete the subscribed thread from your AZB folder.

This is a sticky from the main forum with details about the AZ membership. It will raise your max PM count to 150. Those that choose to support this forum by paying the small annual fee have a yellow banner under their user ID that says "club member." IMO, all the cue makers who post and read here should show their support of this forum by becoming members. It seems like a very small price to pay for the benefit that we are receiving.

On another note, the PM system seems to have the default of saving a copy of every PM that you send. I changed this for myself, and only save a copy of the sent messages that I really want to keep.
Turn this off by going here:
User CP > Edit Options > Save a copy of sent messages in my Sent Items folder by default (in the Private Messaging section)

Save a copy of a message that you're sending by going to the bottom of the message and checking the box that says: "Save a copy of this message in your Sent Items folder."
