Does anyone know anything about these cues? I've seen one with his name but dated 2013. Its a beautiful cue but I thought he has been dead for several years. Is someone building them again under his name?

No.

I'm actually trying to work with this guy to get a couple of cues to the states to check out. His name is is Edwin Reyes. He is familiar with THE Edwin Reyes, but wasn't sure what to call his cues, since that's his name too. We are negotiating right now, and I may have more info as well as a review in the near future.

As to the name, we discussed this at length. I believe he is going to change the name to something like E. Reyes Customs or somthing like that. Just make it different enought to avoid confusion.

Edwin seems like a very nice guy. Seems to be on the up and up. I can't wait to see one of his cues in person. They seem very impressive in high res pictures.

All the best,

I realize that. This guy is saying his birth name is also Edwin Reyes. He says he's familiar with him, even met him. He says he will send a copy of his ID to anyone requesting it.

Edwin does plan to change away from using his full name on cues from what I understand. I don't know him well, but he seems nice enough in emails. I hope to see a finished cue in person soon.

Okay, I just saw some of Edwins' work on fleaBay. When you're finished dealing with this guy, hit me up because I might have some 2013 Bert Schrager cues available, made this here in California ...cheap.

(note sarcasm)

Look, I'm not saying it's super nice stuff, but Like I said earlier, if I buy a couple it will be for resale, and it WILL NOT say edwin reyes on them.

I hope he signs them Edwin Paul Reyes from hereon.

I hope so too. I give the benefit of doubt until otherwise proven. He says he's going to take his name off, but proof will show in the future. Eitherway I've don't my best to direct him the best direction.

I even pointed him here. We'll see...

You should get in touch with Steve Urate instead. He's over there in Manila to, and you might like what has to offer a little more.

See the veneer work is just as nice as Edwin Paul's

Do you have a problem with me or him? I told him to change his name, because it's in his best interest. I saw a cheaper cue that, believe it or not, there is demand for. He has left his name on cues it's already on. If he continues to do so that's on him, and I won't do business with him.

They aren't the nicest, but some folks can't spend $350-450 on a cue.

Either way, like I said, time will tell. I'm not expecting much, but I'm hoping for the best.

Here's a pic of Edwin's cue.

He signed his between the points close to the top.

Is it a coincidence this new Edwin Reyes signs his in that area too ?
Using gold color sometimes?
My initial opinion is he tried to deceive the public until he was called on it.
Him having an ID showing Edwin Reyes as his name might be of little value in proving that's his real name. A copy of his passport would be much better proof.

I get all of that, and I understand points involved here. Is is so wrong to give the guy a chance to make good before we cast him out?

If he doesn't change the name of his cues, or he continues to try to decieve the public I say crucify the guy, but not before he has a chance to make good.

That was my point. I'm not trying to stick up for the guy. I reached out to him, and we talked about possible getting some business going together. I suggested he change his name on the cue. He said I was the 8th person to tell him that since posting on ebay.

Lets hope he can get his OWN thing going.

it's very nice and very very good to have some positive thinking to everyone...but the point of many people here to warning you because, they maybe already got a bad experience dealing with cuemaker from phillipines.. i'm not saying that every cuemaker from Phillipines is doing a bad bussiness...many cuemkaer in Phillipines is a very good person too..but, i have to admit that, in phillipines, you are very very hard to earn some money for living.... so sometimes that situation force some people to doing a bad bussiness...i know because, i'm living in Indonesia....and just like phillipines ....we are a third world ......poverty is one of a major factor to make people doing bad......i know in USA, many people cheat each other too..... but maybe not as many as here is Indonesia i guess....

So, the point is ....you have to be wise....like don't send the money first...until the cue is in your hand ...or maybe find somebody you can trust to become an escrow or else.....

sorry, if my english not good....i hope you can understand what i mean...

Joey,
I had the same thoughts too.
the thread starter also got misleaded thinking that it was a cue from the great Edwin Reyes.

This new Edwin Reyes signs his cues too similar to the great Edwin Reyes.

No write up on his eBay auctions about himself and he wants to collect US$200 for a cue?

I would rather spend the money to buy a mass produced factory cue and be less worried than to worry about a cue warping in the future.

I knew it couldnt be one of his. Thought maybe someone was building in his name maybe. Has anyone any experience with Edwin Paul reyes' cues? I think some are pretty nice looking.

Actually, I have owned a ebony/Amboyna burl 8 pointer custom cue by Al Bautista of Black Pearl Cues and he signed his cues between the points in gold pen also, so it's not a trait that the late Edwin "Bandito" Reyes used, since quite a few cuemakers sign their cues in the same way nowadays.

I think Edwin Paul Reyes would be better to just sign his cues as "E.P.Reyes" to save any confusion between his cues and the late great Edwin Reyes.

And btw, Anyone that is saying that Edwin Reyes may not be his real name, you don't know much about the Philippines because Edwin is a fairly common boys name in the Philippines as is the surname Reyes, and so I'm fairly sure there are plenty of guys in the Philippines called Edwin Reyes, most of which probably have never held a cue stick to shoot a ball, let alone to make a cue.

Point of my post?.. stop judging people you don't know and give them the chance to show what they can do with their products before you decide on whether they will be good or not so good quality.

Willie

When i first read the cuemaker a couple of weeks ago, i was surprise and curious too, and my thoughts is that maybe the son of late Edwin, decided to start making cues, because Edwin has a son around 25+ on age. but after seeing his work on Fb, its not totally one of the late Edwins style of work, but we cannot blame anyone if somebody suspect that this new maker under this name is trying to deceive some people, its automatic that everyone saw that name especially those people that own and see some works of late Edwin Reyes, will think that there is an attempt to mislead or at least getting benefits of using the name "Edwin Reyes"

For this new maker works, i cannot comment as i dont have see or try one of it in person, so i have no rights to judge or say anything but im sure using the same name will not help him in the future, there is no harm on trying but as a pinoy cuemaker as well, before you send your money make sure you know everything, from the cuemaker and to all information that you must know at least you have a protection on yourself.
