"It's funny that every time there is a new big tournament, I win it ...", said efren reyes on his and django bustamante's win in the 1st world cup of pool.
i've been thinking about the same thing....there was the 1st japan open (?) (where he won the then highest prize money in pool), then there was the 1st KOH tournament (where he also won the subsequent highest prize money in pool). now the 1st world cup of pool. anybody else know of any other efren firsts?
 
US Masters

He also won the inaugural US Masters 9-ball (against Earl Strickland)... sadly I think that tournament never took-off, so it was the first and last of that one... I think he also won the first ever leg of the San Miguel 9-ball Tour..

He was the first non-American to win the US Open as well... (if that counts as firsts! :D )
 
He didn't win the IPT North American Open. Granted he does have a very good track record with new tournaments.
 
yeah, that sucks. oh well, he placed high anyway.

Other firsts: first asian on the Billiards HOF; first asian on the One-Pocket hall of fame; first to win the DCC master of the table back to back; and first to win three times; .....
 
what about the color of money againt strickland ?does that count ,and y did they bill it as color of money?
 
maybe because there was a movie about pool entitled "The Color of Money"? ;)
also, maybe because pool is often played on a green felt table, and money, well, at least american dollars, is also predominantly green. so, the title is in reference to seeing "green", or "money", because that's what they were playing for -- lots and lots of money (at the time. now it's just loose change). it could also mean that they were trying not to alienate our smelling impaired brethren by calling it "the smell of money"....

oh btw, efren also won the first time the WPC was produced by matchroom sports and shown around the world in 1999.

He was the first to win the World 8-ball Championship, when they re-started it again.

I would think of him as the first IPT-winner, since he won the first IPT-event with more than two players...

he did not won the inagural Japan Open, but he won the only biggest prize money ever in that tournament.

If all tournaments will be ranamed, "First", would he win it? Mmm.. Like, " The First Ever US Open 9 Ball Tournament Since Last Year!". He did another first, first time that Filipinoes sweept San Miguel 9 Ball Tour by winning the last leg.
 
You guys have forgotten his MOST PRESTIGIOUS WIN SO FAR!!! He was the VERY FIRST WINNER of the AZB room Celebrity Scotch Doubles Tournament at the 2007 DCC (of course, I'm sure his partner had to carry him; but hey, a win is a win).
 
he is also the team member in the first and only world team pool event long time ago
 
he is also the first and the only one who never lost in a challenge one-on-one televised duel..
