Tournament.
$1000-added Shooters One Pocket tournament just ended.
Efren beat Parica 4-2 in the race to 4 finals.
Efren won the first two games. Parica won the third game.
Efren won the 4th game and thought the match was over.
The crowd had a good laugh as Jose, getting ready to break, while Efren was about to leave, told Efren he was still alive. They both a good chuckle.
Parica won the fifth game but was headed for a difficult mission of winning a game with Efren breaking.
The match was video taped by Shooters manager, Alex. Great match with both players showing why they are one-pocket geniuses.
Some AZ'rs were there and prolly can give more detail.
I was busy doing the tourney repairs.

Joey is the tape going to be available?
I don't know for sure. They were having some difficulties taping last night due to a switch.
But, you can reach Shooters at 951-785-9588. The manager's name is Alex.

wow. who else played in this tournament?
Parica beat Francisco and Efren beat Rigo (sp?) for the finals. Toward the end there was Fach, Tang, Alex, Morro, Butch and Wayne.

Efren and Jose played a great final. Both players made some unbelievable shots and anyone who purchases the tape will find it's worth the price. I spoke to Alex and he said the tape might be ready by next week's nine ball tourney or possibly the week after.

The whole tournament was great to watch, especially Efren's and Jose's matches. Efren made so many great shots that it's hard to remember let alone describe all of them. He was banking balls in from unreal angles, razor thin cut banks without ever getting a double kiss, run outs from everywhere, reversing traps and lock up safeties without much effort.

In one match with a player named Willie (who was obviously very nervous), Efren was set to break when he called the left corner pocket as his. Only thing was that Efren was breaking from the same side of the table his pocket was on and proceeded to smash the balls open 8-ball style. The cue ball flew around the table and scratched, leaving the crowd cracking up laughing. Willie took his ball in hand and attempted to run out. He only made about 2 or 3 balls before he missed, leaving a wide open table. Efren, owing a ball from the scratch, runs 10 and out (one extra).

Many thanks goes out to Alex and the staff at Shooters for putting on a great tourney and a big thanks to JoeyInCali for doing a great job with the cue repairs (aside from that little problem with Tang's tip, hehe).

Thnx bud. :)
Tang's Predator ferrule would not hold glue. Tip kept falling off.
I had to "scratch" the face with 60-grit paper really carefully and used Devcon glue gel. The pressed Triangle finally settled in ( I think :D ).
This labor Day weekend is gonna be a blast at Shooters as usual.
Sadly, John Schmidt ( a local fave who moved east ) will not be here according to his backer. JS has not been playing of late b/c he is so disheartened over the money or lack of in pool. He is now playing golf.
But, Efren will be there. I expect the local heavies, Morro, Max, Ernesto, King Kong, Lori de Leon, Melissa Herndon, Manole and more to be there.
$10,000 GUARANTEED added money ought to bring down some road warriors from AZ and NoCal.

He never really quit playing completely, however, his focus is way more on Poker than it is on pool. After he lost his match to Parica he packed his cue and was gone. When he had his focus on pool he would have been there all day. He probably plays and practices pool about 10-20% of what he used to, and his game has dropped as a result.

That's too bad. He was nothing short of a MONSTER back in the 90s. I wonder if the rest of the country really knew how goood he was/is....He was snapping off all the major SoCal tourneys when all the action was here.

I guess Poker pays the bills and bills have got to be paid. Not to mention no significant pool action.
