THE SILENCER

i've come to the conclusion, although i may be wrong, efren reyes will never win a major tournament again. look carfully at 2003. bustamante chewed him up like a dog with a soft play toy. yes friends, the leader of the band is tired and his eyes are growing old. the magician, ran out of tricks. reyes is done. hey- he gave us, 20 great years of pool. i say he wins nothing in 2004. harsh words, but hey, he has old eyes and his nerves are shot, bustamante now carry's the torch. go Django!

maybe your right? i guess the old fart still has something in him.

He just won the All-Around crown, How can he be done? Efren may be getting up in age but efren in half stroke can still win any tournamnet he enters.

This one is about as funny when some idiot posted on this board that there were no Black pro pool players. What a joke!

Tell this to the ones Efren beat at DCC for cash.
Efren still gave some weight to some of the best one-holers in the world.
The pros are lucky 9-ball is the popular game now because if there are 15 balls on the table, Efren would dominate them.

I think Silencer is only insiting some worthless argument. Everybody retires and grows old, but insulting a great player because he is old and calling him old fart? Naaaaaaaa..... I think people should be more respectful. Try again man.

Efren, still master of the table at One Pocket

Well another thing the DCC 'proved' -- if a single tournament can prove anything, which it can't :) -- is that One Pocket might be Efren's best game at this point in his career. I know, I know, it could still be Rotation, his native Philipino game. But it also could be that other Philipino Rotation specialists are sneaking up on him at that game, too. That I would not know, since I don't know anything about the Philipine's pool scene, but over here Rotation is not a common game.

My point is, One Pocket is a game that really favors all-around skilled, smart and creative players with good mastery of the cue ball -- and that certainly characterizes Efren. And the thing about One Pocket is that Efren could go on dominating at that game for quite a while, because it demands much more of a range of skills -- not just the kind of pure shotmaking that he could indeed be losing his edge at.

The lesson to be learned from this thread is that The Silencer...Bernie is NEVER to be taken seriously. NEVER!

I too was at DCC, What a stroke he has. Name any 5 billiard games and your player and you can get odds on your $$$$$. I think i'll bet every thing I can get my hands on. Thats how much respect I have for Efren and his declining ability. Sam

Efren might be passing the torch - to whom I don't know - but other players are still passing him the cash. As mentioned, he dominated the DCC. First in one pocket and second in nine ball speak for itself. He was also right in the mix on the gambling side as well. He spotted Cliff Joyner a ball in one pocket. Is there anyone else willing to even think about doing this????

He spotted another guy who is a real good player 13 to 4 and they broke even. Efren looked as if he were playing with the guy and still was making the cueball do things that made my friends, all great one pocket players, go huh?

Ralf Souquet had to come with one of his best performances ever to beat Efren and he knew it. Efren has won just about every major event there is. He is in the same age bracket as Sigel and Hall and still dominates.

Buddy Hall is still my favorite but Efren is the one who is taking down the scalps on a regular basis.

Silencer,

You post some crazy stuff man!! I said this before but it bears repeating:

While other tournament players are resting at night for their next match in the morning, Efren is in action almost all night. All he has to do is slow down a little at night. He's been doing this for years; the man has a constitution that is unbelievable!!

As far as the silent majority here in the Philippines is concern,
many believed that efren has to pass the torch soon, and
the most logical choice would be busta.True enough efren
is getting old and whether we like it or not the man would be
dwindling and waning in maybe 5 years to come. Efren with his
vast knowledge and experience on pool surely has a deep repository
of skills but sooner or later the physical side would catch up on him.
And for me as i have posted here before a lot of young filipino are
just waiting on the wings to explode aside from busta, we have
warren kiamco, marlon manalo (who is also a good snooker player),
dennis orcullo, Gaga Gabica, Lee Van Corteza and many many others..
And hey efren has a lot of young ones to pass the torch on to, and
all they have to do is to be expose more on international billiard scene.

In fact today we have a nationwide Open Tournament being sponsored
by Solar Sports here...And of course a lot of new talents would be
discovered...and that for efren would be a great tribute and a lot to
be happy with...

as per disrepecting the man...i think that is very uncalled for...
since this man has contributed to the pool world in a very
phenomenal way..and to disrecpect the man would be a
far no..no....however you are entitled to your own opinion though.

Thank you Mr Ninoy for your informative post. Many Filipino's have been named on several posts but one of my favorites is Ramil Gallego. I think if he left the Phillipines and made a commitment to come here and play in all the tournaments he would be one of the greats. I saw him play 9 ball and just destroyed his opponents in California.
As far as respect goes some people dont know how to and is a reflection on their own respect for themselves. Efren is a true Hall of Famer and a master of the game. When we talk of all around there is no other like him. Rotation, 9 ball, 8 ball, one pocket, Billiards, snooker, Balkline, he masters all. Some of us dont deserve to even mention his name with such irreverence. This man has given us so much and has taught us new ways to look at the game. When someone refers to him as an "old fart" he is obvious ignorant of the kind of respect, particularly Asians, given to those of superior stature like Efren. Besides the only thing that resembles a "fart" is the smell of the post that mentions it.
