Efren Reyes fluke 9 ball against Appleton 2012 US Open

Disgusting.
Ok, now we all know that Darren is not exactly a saint on a pool table himself, but my word this celebration by Efren after a fluke like that...:frown:
I like seeing emotion at the table, but this was mean, very mean...:)

Are you guys serious? He won the game fair and square and he can't celebrate?

That's 9 ball, sometimes things work out in your favor and sometimes they don't. It's the same for everyone. People talk about wanting the game to be more exciting. That was pretty friggen exciting.

In golf sometimes the ball hits the tree and lands perfect in the fairway, other time it goes the other way. Same thing in other sports and games.Balls do unpredictable things, usually it's more fortunate for one side or the other on any given play or shot. In the end it all come out in the wash, and if you think it doesn't... well, there's nothing you can do about it anyways.

That's ungentlemanly my dear Efren.

He should have done it the professional way by throwing his stick away and jumping on top of the table. (sic)

Can people please stop feeling sorry for Darren. Reyes is argueably the best player that ever lived and everyone feels like Darren should have won.... really? If anybody was going to do it, Efren would be the guy, he has habit of making some clutch kicks maybe it ain't all luck guys.

Given the speed he shot at I'd guess he was shooting the one rail kick to the side, but more importantly, I also think he was playing CB position for a safety, sending whitey up table behind all those balls.

I also think the thing to remember about Efren is that there's probably not a mean bone in his body and what you saw was an almost childlike exuberance when, one of those crazy things we've all seen happen on a pool table, happened. That it happened hill-hill, on the Accu-Stats table, at the US Open, against a great opponent was just icing on the cake. There is not a one of us who wouldn't have gone a little nuts in the same situation.

I believe Efren deserves this win :) At his level, he deserves the roll, which makes people like watching him :)

At least he didn't jump on the table and yell. If Darren was in his spot, and he fluked the 9 like that, he would have done way more than just jumping on the table :]

I think this was great.

Compare what he did to other mainstream professional sports:

In baseball, the team meets the batter at home plate if he hits a walk-off homerun. Remember the Prince Fielder "bowling" celebration?

In football, the players do little dances when they SCORE... not even win, just score! Imagine if every pool player did dumbass Tom Cruise/Color of Money dances after every shot!

In hockey, they just beat the shit out of each other.

Couldn't agree more!

Don't lose the forest for the tree ..

For me it was a triple way shot..
By priority :
1) To hide the ball in the kitchen behind the 6,7,8 and maybe to have a shot to the 5, if the second -according to " my view" - intended shot succeeded.

2) To kick the 4 in the corner pockets , either..

3) Luckiest of all a 9 in the side after a 4 - 9 combo..Even though i doubt that because of the Efren's precision in kicking..

So what happened ??
He succeeded in his FIRST INTENDED SHOT... Darren didn't have a clear shot to the 4 even if the 9 wasn't in..
This is the forest ..And also forest is that he is a tremendous player still at his 58..
The tree is that the 9 ball went to the side pocket...
Luck honors the BIG players...

aaaaaand shit like this is why there are a lot more 10-ball tournaments now than (luck)9-ball. Earl's rules from his TAR match with Shane on the 10-footer, in my opinion, should be the standard. No luck, no cheese. run every rack. But, this is 9-ball. When you get stuck, hit it hard and hope for the best.

Efren is magic...

...Seriously now...That act of happiness it was more childish than mean. Tho, don;t forget that Daz beat him just a few days ago in that 2000$ match race to 15...This was his inside revenge for that and he celebrated well.. He's cute, really now...like a child with his fav toy...
Way to go mister Reyes...sorry for Daz tho...

Funny how people can watch a match where a guy loses 11-2 because every roll goes against him, and give credit to the other guy for playing such a strong set - but then they turn around and watch a match where a guy plays world class pool for 20 racks, but because of a fluke in the 21st say the guy no longer deserves credit for his performance, and he shouldn't be allowed to celebrate.

People need to wake up and realize that the rolls play a huge part in almost every 9-ball match. Always have, always will. That match was as exciting as hell, and one fluke shot doesn't change that - if it had happened in rack 2 it would have been just as big, but nobody would have even mentioned it.

What if it was the final shot to win the open?
