It seems as if the writer originally thought that Efren had made poor safety attempt "hitting the ball too hard?" but then as the cue ball and object ball are careening around the table, they collide and the object ball falls. The author then decides that Efren actually saw that shot and played that shot (Or did I misread what he was saying?) . I know he is the magician but that shot sounds TOO magical even for DA MAN!

I'd love to see the shot on cuetable.com layout. Glad you asked the question!

Reading the story I don't think the balls actually made contact with each other after hitting several rails, they were just both flying around the table. Sounds like Efren made at least a three or four rail bank though.

That may be Efren's greatest gift, to have the confidence to fire at almost ridiculous shots. Even if other people see them they instantly dismiss them as too high risk. Good call for ordinary humans, Efren when he is on isn't human.

You are absolutely right, Hu. Many a games later, we would ask Efren about a particular shot and he won't remember a thing. Some years ago, Efren was gambling with this player from Europe, the name escapes my memory now, it's been awhile.

Anyways, they were playing 8 Ball and the guy was getting a hefty spot. 8 games on the wire, race to 11. This happened at QMaster in Norfolk after tournament hours . The tourney was hosted by Charlie Williams in Hampton Roads. Efren beat the guy two or three sets. He was shooting his usual game; cutting backwards, kicking shots in, and running out at will. But there was a particular shot that Efren did that was really mindboggling.

The only way that I can describe how he did it was like this: pretend that Efren was pointing a gun in front of a target, he fires and he hits the target, in the BACK! That's how he made the shot in a nutshell. There were a lot instances where he made this unexplainable shots and he wouldn't remember how he did it.

Thanks Hu. I scanned the article too fast. The two balls did not collide. Yeah, Efren is unique.

What is really so uncanny is how he reamins humble in spite of all of his success.

Now that I've re-read the article: Yeah, he played the shot... no doubt about it.
