Efren vs Earl Color of Money

I know there was a thread about this recently, but did anyone notice the amazing pool played by Efren in the last 25 racks or so? I didn't watch the whole thing, I only watched the last tape actually, but Efren must have been in dead stroke. That was the best pool I've ever seen. He was running 2's 3's and 4's and he would play a safe and then run out again. He ran over 20 racks from what I saw. Earl got extremely frustrated because Efren made a barrage overcomming Earl's 17 game lead. Earl still played well with the exception of a missed ball here and there, but he really got the crowd against him with his antics. The crowd got so angry at Earl that they actually cheered when he scratched. Efren showed a top gear in pool that I don't think any other player could achieve, no wonder he is the best player who ever lived.

It's still my favorite pool video.
Down 87-104 to 120, Efren wins like 10 of 11 games to get close.
Efren's break starts to work then he just safes Earl to death.
Great, great, comeback.
Incredible runout power by Efren late in the match.

Is there a link so i can buy that? I've tried searching on accu-stats, but that didn't show up.... Thanks

Earl played like that on the first 12 tapes. You have to remember Efren is a gambler and long matches like that favor his ability to play for extended periods of time. Simply put... Earl got tired. If you watch the 1st 12 tapes you will see just how increadable Earl Strickland really is. You don't get a 17 game lead on Reyes unless you are King Kong with a pool cue.

I agree........
I mentioned about this in an earlier thread ..... How much more evenly matched could two of the greatest 9-ball players be....they played 237 games and the score was 120-117? Efren was the winner but you've got to give Earl the credit he's due......like Mark Wilson said on the tape...there were no losers in this match...

Sure there was.
$75K to the winner, $25K to the loser. That's $50K to me. :D
It wasn't winner-take-all.
Efren coming back from 17 down cemented his greatness.

Well, I didn't know it was split 75/25....somehow I thought it was winner take all................However, the reference to there being no losers wasn't meant in the monetary sense; it was meant that regardless of who won the match, they were both champions and winners in THAT sense.......I'm surprised I have to explain this......

Don't be suprised.
Joey can be a little slow at times :D .
And he just happens to enjoy swinging on Efren's nuts every now and then :p :D
J/K

I've seen the COM #2. It sounds like the first one was better.
I'll have to get it.

How does the video quality compare with Accu-stats? I might buy a couple of these since my Reyes-Strickland Sands '95 tape is gone. :(

Quality of video is very very good. The match was taped for tv in the Philippines. You can see the cameramen on some shots ( there were two ).
It looks like they were using a 3/4" beta camera to me.

Filipinos often cheer scratches by the opponent. Never understood that.

They don't compare to Accu-Stats.... They are Accu-Stats videos. Until you see this whole 13 tape set you ain't seen $h1t. This is about 18 hours of the greatest 9 ball ever played.

Could it be they are betting on the match or are partial to their players?
The crowd on this match was mostly Hong Kong people though.
Btw, the matched was taped by Vintage Sports and Accu-Stats bought the rights for re-distribution.

i'm not siding with anyone here but could it be they're just actually giving moral support to their compatriot who's about to get back at the table and not really to jeer at the opponent who just scratched? or, it could be applause for a worthy try that just didn't pan out....i try to keep an open mind.

besides, i don't think it's fair to generalize. we all hear cheers and jeers once in a while in any sporting event from every nationality.

and btw, i think the color of money was held in hongkong. there were probably as many americans there as filipinos. chances are majority of the audience were chinese.

cheers!

accu stats desription of the match.

LOL the crowd was mostly white people and chinese. I don't know if you've ever watched the last few WPC held in Cardiff but the Brittish fans really take sides with their countrymen and are often rude to the opponent. They don't just cheer when someone scratches, they scream and holler lol.

I have watched this entire match several times. The best pool played in this match isn't Efren it is Earl early/ mid match. He had some of the most impossible run outs in this match you will ever see and wasn't missing anything for long stretches.
.
At the end Earl was in his own head and started making mistakes. In the middle of the match Efren wasn't really making any mistakes he was just losing the break war and getting outplayed.
.
Earls highest level of rotation play is the best there ever was.
