Efren's weird bank shots.

Look at the shot he makes on the 5 and later on the 9 in the first rack he plays in this video:

I can't even see clearly what he does to the five to bank it, or what he does to the nine. How in the world does he make those shots? What english does he use? Does anyone know? He seems to make banks that don't have enough room for the cueball. Truly the magician! But exactly what does he do the 5 and 9 balls? Can anyone draw a diagram or something?

I frequently double kiss the shot on the 4/5 ball whichever it is
 
5 ball

The five ball is a passover bank with extreme 9 o clock english.The nine is harder but again a pass over bank with no engilsh [I think] any help out there.I can do the five ball I'll look in the banking with the beard book for the other bank.:D

The 5 ball is a basic one pocket shot that requires low inside english with a moderate stroke. The 9 ball is a little bit trickier, but also uses inside english.

If someone you're playing makes those shots, that's when you say your wife just called and you have to go ... LOL

The speed control on the 5 ball along with english make it a very difficult shot. The 9 ball was the same shot, but further from the pocket and with a 2nd rail. Wasn't too much of a problem for Efren, was it? ... ROFL

The shot is not that hard at all. Most anyone who plays one pocket or bank pool is favored to make it. Try it out a few times and you'll see how easy it is. The bank on the 9 however is a whole other story.
 
I play bank pool and can make the 5 ball about 60 % of the time,the nine looks like the same shot but I think the English is reversed,like the cross side 2 times.I cant find the shot in the book.
 
Bank the five with inside english to beat the kiss is well known. Bank the nine --- wow, that's quite a shot! Nice video.
 
As stated, those shots are passover shots. Mostly used in One pocket, but, also used in other games.

Almost all of them, (with the exception of a few. Depending on the incoming angle of the cue ball), are all half-ball hits. Meaning that you aim your cue stick at the edge of the object ball. Generally those shots like the five ball, being that close to the pocket are hit with just a center ball hit. The english is transfered from hitting the ball to the right and passing over the object ball. Others, further from the pocket, like cross side or cross corner are hit with a tip of outside english.

As stated earlier. They really aren't that hard of a shot. Practice them. Speed, english and your stroke are the key issues.

The nine ball is another story. It is hard to actually see the angle from where we are. I would say the the shot is hit with inside english. It shortens off the first rail, then reverses off the second.

Yes ,collision induced through help makes the balls,the inside helps with the kiss.These shots come up all the time in games and can be used in conjunction for shape and/or a combo shot/safe where If you make the shot you have a shot on the next ball or if you misss you opponent is hooked or has a harder shot.:)

Similar to this one that Brian Gregg shoots on the 5 ball in the DCC ring bank game. He goes an extra rail, but, it is the same concept.

When Efren is goofing off, that's when he is the most fun to watch. Notice the joy in the laughter of the guys watching. That's Efren's real Magic!

Like a straight in 9, he'll multi-rail bank or kick it in from nowhere.

The thing that is most amazing is that he shoots it with no brain what so ever. A normal human would have taken a lot more time to size up that bank on the nine.

But not Efren . . . feel lucky we were around when he was, if not it would just be fairy tales!

neither bank was all that tough. i love watching efren but any decent player will hit those good. especially for fun
