JAM,

I don't want to derail the cloth topic because I think it has value however I had to compliment you on that photo if you took it. Excellent!...

Thanks, Hu! :) I'm not a professional by any means. I have an older model Olympus digital camera, only 2-plus megapixel, but it works for me. A new digital camera is on my wish list, though! :p

Check out this picture, also taken at the Joss Turning Stone Casino, by a professinal photographer, Diana Hoppe. This was at one of last year's Joss Tour events in Verona, NY, which was won by Fransciso Bustamante. I think this pic taken by Diana really showcases the blue cloth on the tables:

There's both a tournament blue and an electric blue.

I think somebody changed the name in recent times from TOUR BLUE to TOURNAMENT BLUE

The first time I saw this cloth, the words "electric blue" came out of my mouth to Greg Sullivan, the Diamond guy. I mean, it truly looked ELECTRIC in the venues, the way it shined underneath the Diamond overhead lamps. Though the recent websites are labeling this cloth color as "tournament blue," I believe the name was changed to make it more pool-oriented, IMHO. Being a court reporter, I tend to remember people's exact words better than I'd like sometimes, and Greg Sullivan stated that the cloth color was "tour blue" when this cloth first hit the pool scene.

Taken from the BCA website in reference to a May 5-7, 2006, BCA Ohio Team Championship: The number of mini tournaments is not an issue as we will have 20-7' Diamond Smart tables available for play supporting the new "Tour Blue" cloth.

Taken from Professor Q-Ball's website in reference to 2005 BCA 9-Ball Championship: With new Super Aramith Pro balls and Simonis Tour Blue 860 cloth, players could get used to these conditions pretty easily.

Interestingly and on point with the topic of this thread is this little nugget, found also on Professor Q-Ball's website: In addition to the tokens, another new sight was the two pieces of brand new ‘light green’ Masters Chalk found on each table. This new addition also drummed up some mixed responses from players. Some refused to use it and some just didn't care. One player was quoted saying, “We used to have green tables and blue chalk and now we have blue tables and green chalk.” It’s still up for debate on whether or not the green chalk held up as well as the blue chalk. The research experts at Diamond found this particular shade of chalk left the least amount of stain on the new blue cloth. The more commonly used blue chalk leaves very dark, grayish marks on the felt. We can probably anticipate the green chalk to accompany the Diamond Smart Tables at next year’s 8-ball nationals.

Golf looks like it may be jumping on the band wagon, as I read an advertisement about a brand-new Odyssey TOUR BLUE TT2 Men's Putter! :D

Washington, D.C., in recent times, has done some upgrades in public parks. If you can believe it, they have actually ripped up the natural green grass, and they have instead placed fake green outdoor carpet which looks like grass, a thick green shag substance. I saw a park recently with this fake grass, and it looked odd to me. Is Kentucky bluegrass actually blue or green? :p

Blue is better

Back in the stone age, I bought myself a Brunswick table for a graduation present to myself(used all the money from my job after school). It was an 8 foot slate table, and I had it covered in the bright blue cloth they offered in color choices. This was over 25 years ago. Guess I was ahead of the curve on cloth color back then!

I'm brainwashed...I mean I'm sold...

Just took Breakup's link to Simonis...it seems the Tournament Blue cloth does more than cover a pool table...it can enhance your life...

It evokes the color of the sea, sky, and the American flag. Grand views and a little patriotism thrown in.

Steadies the emotions...I'm sure we can all use a little of that. But could that be an unfair advantage for some players...or reduce other players' edge??

High energy, communication and creativity are enhanced...there's another few things we probably could all use.

Tournament Blue is related to calm, tranquil, constancy, patience, perseverance, dignified, poised, rational, relaxed, balanced...this could seriously cut down on therapist bills.

Easier to see the balls??...minimum eye fatigue??...forget that laser treatment.

How could I have gone so long without Tournament Blue??...

I really like the blue cloth much better-- It's these old eyes.

However I bought a gross of light green chalk and think it is terrible. I started a thread about two months ago and many other players agreed that the light green chalk is not nearly as good as the blue Masters chalk.

I think that light green crap has a finer texture than blue...kinda like National brand is real fine and just doesn't feel right when you're chalking....

My advise for you is to get Powder Blue. Reason is that electric blue show up more mark on it especially on the breaking spot to the one ball. The path will be in grayish color. It is noticeable after a week of using the electric blue. Powder blue would not be that noticeable.

Electric/tournament blue will last in a tournament but not in a pool hall, unless you don't mind the greyish stain cause by breaking/jumping cue ball.

Simonis gray

I have played on this blue.... but for decor in my room, we have simonis 860 on all the 7 & 8ft tables ...the 9fts have 760 simonis. They have been in this gray for four years. You should hear the whineing about having to use master gray chalk only. They think the chalk is not as good.I get more life from the cloth and it matchs the decor in the room better. When I say more life ...I get about a month more on the cloth because it shows no wear like darker(green) cloth does.So in the end saves me money and they look good till they are recovered each time.

i have this cloth and i love it myself but the kind i wish'd i had was that tanish color looks like the balls would be really easy to see and easy on the eyes.
