Elk Master Tips

Many years ago Elk Master, Le Pro, and Champion tips
were the favorite for pool players. Do any/many to players use original
Elk Masters now? Elk Masters compressed?

I've long been under the impression that the biggest benefit from using layered tips is that they are far more consistent, tip to tip, than traditional tips. I've heard that some traditional tips come in multipack boxes in which only 10-20% are of sufficient quality for good players, the rest being suitable only for house cues and bangers. (I cannot confirm what I've heard is true, so feel free to enlighten me.)

When traditional tips are compressed and/or "doctored" (e.g., milk duds), how is the consistency from one tip to the next?

I use pressed LePros on my pool cues. They have the right feel for me, and they're inexpensive.

I use Elk master on my snooker cue, it just feels right and I've tried many layered tips on it without it making any difference to spin etc.

Common sense —we refer to some past players such as Greenleaf, Hoppe, Mosconi, Lassiter as “greats” - they used tips made from one piece leather and I guess they worked “ great”
Equipment is far over rated if you don’t have the stroke under pressure and if your stroke delivery is not consistently correct for each and every shot.
Tip hardness is probably 75% of the feel of your cue’s hit. Other than that my opinion is the rest is all in your head - maple, carbon, steel, ivory, layered , not layered- does anyone think it really makes you better- after many years I say - not really - all just personal preference as we add options.

In my personal opinion as someone who compresses his own tips, Elkmaster aren't being cut from the same quality leather Tweeten has used forever. I believe it's a cheaper cut.
Instead of the tight shoulder sections, they're using the Stomach and under regions. The grain isn't as tight or as numerous as is from the shoulder areas.
I can't seem to get Elkmaster to process like they once did.
I think you'll find Pooldawg8 echoing my sentiments here.
Can't prove anything bcuz Tweeten is unresponsive, but I can't find any other explanation for what's happening with my duds. They really are duds now.
I've switched to le pro and triangle.
Btw... I don't sell my tips.
I make them for other players and friends, as many of you already know who've received my free gift packs.

Could not Agree More ! Indian Not Arrow.

If your making your own milk duds heres the recepe that efren the goat uses. Soak in 2 percent milk foe 48 hrs, should sand bottom of tip a little. You can buy a tip press from Amozon for less than 20.00. Tighten press as tight as you can and leave tip in press for 24 hrs. After this procees is complete leave tip dry for one month before you place on cue . Note, if you are miscueing after application tip needs more drying time. its a lenghty process but worth the wait. Have fun.

I wanted to 'like' your comment but it is very good information and deserves more. I always liked the old Elk Masters. THANK YOU very much. How may I be on your 'free gift pack' list?
