Elkmaster pressing...

I have done some experimenting with some Elkmaster tips:

The stock Elkmasters kinda remind me of Snipers in the way that they accept chalk, and the way the spongey feel on the hit. Not my preference, but liked but other players.

I press the standard Elkmaster dome in a hand vise untill the dome is flattened somewhat, not crazy tight, and leave it overnight, then install the next day.

What you get is a tip with a little more feedback and still accepts chalk very nicely.

I have tried the soaking them in milk thing but found it came out way too hard for me.
Having said that, I do have a few of Muellers Duddley on the way to me.

but so far, the firmly pressed Elkmaster is holding up well for me, mis-cueing less and I have the confidence in my tip again, anyone else doing this? I actually got the tip (no-pun) from U-tube's "Efren Reyes" what's in the case. Thxs ER! Great tip! on a Tip!

I play with a robinson tip, which I believe is a pressed elkmaster. I have not had any trouble with mushrooming and it hit good right out of the gate.

I recently put on an unpressed Elkmaster, and while I like the feel, they are definitely a high maintainence item. I have to reshape just about every time I play.

Next time I'm going to press it first and see if this stabilizes the shape holding.

When the BCA outlawed the phoenic tip on break
cues I tried the Lepro in milk and pressed in a vice .
WOW is it hard and great for the break cue.
It's the best I have found...

I have heard that milk does that. I think that I will have to try that. How long do you leave it in the milk? and how long in the vice?

I have been playing with the Wizard med.'s which I liked alot, after they break in, they play a little to hard than I prefer. I just bought some of those Dudleys from Muellers about 2 months ago to try them out, like 3 for $2.50 or so. I finally put one on my Predator shaft three weeks ago and I am VERY impressed with this tip. I will be using these from now on. They hit just like a Sniper. With a good stroke, it puts some incredible english on the ball. It hasn't mushroomed or glazed over yet, it still plays the same as it did when I installed it. I guess they are broken in the moment you play with them since they're pressed??? Let me know what you think when you test drive your Dudley, everyone is different.:D Ron

Yeah that's all my experience's with layered tips, they start out ok, then after a week or few days depending on how much you play, they glaze over get hard and don't accept chalk or you start to miscue. I tried roughing them up with tip pick and the Sandman tool. I got the most out of Moori soft and mediums and tried Hercules,Sinper, Tiger, Everest, Wizard, Talisman and all sorts. And again there's the cost issue with most Moori's, Kamui's ect going for $15-$20 a tip.

For now I will stick with the Elk's and we'll see what happens when the Dudleys arrive....I hope they don't hit like a Sniper, as I think the Snipers are a little soft for my liking. But I am kinda excited about them arriving sometime next week. I'll let you know...

i never have that problem with the talismans i've used. i think as long as you stick to the harder tips they glaze over a lot less

I am presently playing with a milk dud. An Elk Master soaked in milk, then pressed in a vice overnight. I love it. Very little maintenance.

Hey Ron,

I got my Dudley tips today, got it installed fine, Mueller says they are a 73-74 for hardness, I think that's wrong, as mine felt like a 79-80. Felt like the same Milk Dud I made a couple weeks ago.

It played fine, nice action with the cueball but a little too hard for me. I can see how this tip never need any mantenience(sp?). For now i will stick to my pressed Elkmasters.

guys if you make a forum search by "milk duds" you gonna find a lot of interesting and useful info on the subject. Pressed Elkmasters or Triangles are the way to go imo.

Are you soaking them in milk and pressing them for your player cues to, or just the break cues?
