Emily Frazer/ 9 ball Fix

People have been trying to "fix" 9 ball for 40 years. I really don't think anything is wrong with it. Template rack is fine, 1 on the spot is fine, break from anywhere behind the line is fine, any break speed is fine. 4 object balls must hit a rail is fine. Leave the game alone.
Might as well...as mentioned earlier, Matchroom and/or Emily doesn't really care what we think. It really is a take it or leave it thing as far as we're concerned.

I commented on a Matchroom YouTube video asking that they include the game in the video title, 9b, 10b, 8b, 1p, etc. They responded that all they did was 9b and I said "thanks, now I know who to avoid". I don't watch 9b due to the slop rule, jump cues and rack mechanics.

At the pro level 'slop' really is not much of an issue. MR also usually uses a ref to rack. Agree on the shorty cues. 9b is their chosen game so either watch it or don't. It is easy for non-hardcore fans to follow is most likely their main reason. Plus its been the game of the MC since its inception.

They will want a solution that can be explained to the audience in a single sentence. Personally, I’d go with 9 on the spot and 4 inch pockets for all tournaments.

I 100% agree with Cameron. I’ll add, they should use a template for multi-table events where a referee is not available to rack.

That’s all that needs to be changed, imo. Oh and maybe make the 5 orange again.

It’s only going to get worse, she obviously has too much ego to fix anything. Pulling the safety card on DA??? When you need to pull the safety card that’s just a omission of being wrong in my book. She’s not hot anymore. Lol

Good luck with getting a response. MR/Emily do NOT respond well to ANY criticism. I've tried via both FB and email and have never gotten one word back. K. Boyes kinda had her cornered on that video so she had to say something. Totally agree here on the pockets. Would be nice if cloth makers could find a way to 'pre-wear' the cloth so it wasn't so slick/easy when first installed.
I think they do well with criticism. You won't get a response because because they don't have time to respond to everyone who messages on social media. And if she would, it would be a known pro.

I've emailed MRPool on various occasions about various issues. They have NEVER responded to anything. If they have no desire to respond on FB they should just remove the 'message' tab.

Iusedtoberich, Emily Frazer/Matchroom needs our/YOUR Help.

I agree with your post, but she's trying to make it better/different in some way, by doing something.

Us hard core players Yeah we enjoy it, but her mindset is for some type of change $omething to evolve the current product.

Us telling her what we have always liked, it's not how she's rollin', because it won't increa$e viewership, won't help the $amo/$amo business model that's not increased $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ or viewership for our players.

Like another said, KIS, 4'' and template....

Seeing a player make 3 or 4 balls every break is not that enjoyable.

So you don't think we should try to do any better in our sport's major events than to use conditions (rules and equipment) with which about 60% of the games end in one inning, i.e., with no real interaction between the players?

i sorta like the variations in tables including pocket size & humidity effecting play . Shows how players can adapt.
Sorta like racing in the rain

Just like Earl says you ain’t gonna make that shot on my table.

9b is sort of like heavyweight fighting sports.
One who waants a 12 round fight should not expect it of 9b.

I'd like to see them use all the balls.

Rack em up in any order, first shot is the 1 and if the player who makes it then makes the 2 (same inning only,) his inning total doubles. If the inning continues to the 3, inning total triples, repeat the x factor all the way up to a full rack... where inninig would be 15x15 (225 pts for the inning)

Player can choose to shoot balls that are NOT sequential, but those balls only score 1pt each and last 5 must be in rotation.

Alternate break and play to a set point total.

Will Emily respond?

I'd imagine not as that game sounds far too complicated!

9-Ball is perfect for TV, which is why Matchroom chose it, it perfectly compliments their snooker offering with some fan crossover and some preferring one or the other.

That is why no slower paced, more complex or more tactical games really make sense, they would be competing for the same European / Asian audience and aside from that most other games are far too niche and would take forever to gain any sort of traction.

9-Ball is here to stay.

Agreed, the vision they have for pool is a game that their audience knows and doesn’t require more than a couple of sentences to explain to the audience.

The moment we start adding balls, new formats, exotic breaking rules etc. The scope of their audience narrows.

For the average fan, 9 ball has a fine balance of shotmaking and defence. While long time connoisseurs are more interested in skillful tactical battles, casual fans don’t understand the nuances. They are way more impressed by run outs and packages. Matchroom is targeting the person who plays 0.75 times per week and has a high run of 5-7 balls.
