End Game in 8 ball.

Hmmm

I just smoked some crack at lunch and came up with the ultimate move

I would hide the 8 in my pants pocket until I could safely make it. As long as your opponent doesnt see it and accidentally hit you in your nutzzz on attempting a good hit, you should be winner from there every time.

Now that is some good stuff !!! This has got to be better than banking the one ball 3 rails and come behind the 8ball with out making the 8ball !!!
YIKES ! At least hiding the 8ball in your pants you actually have a freakin chance !!!

This was my first thought on the full shot. I feel much more capable of controlling whitey at this angle and speed.

CueTable Help

This the obvious shot with best overall position for the 8. KISS and all. ;) It is, without a 2nd thought, the shot I would have taken should I have left myself in this unfortunate position.

This is one of the reason I like 8 ball. This is in the part of the game, taking a chess term, that I call the end game.

Both players have to trend lightly in order not to give up control of the table. One thing to always remember.....when you are at the table, you are in control.

You can see this at times in safety play. A really good safety player controls what shot the next person has. The goal is the one responing to safey play is to respond in such a manner as to take control of the table back.

Example of a shot I ended up with when I got a turn at the table and what I did:

Also, this is why its important to spend time learning how to go multible rails.

And once again a feel shot since there nothing to reference where you need to put the cue ball in order to put it up there in front of the 8 ball.

I did get another turn at the table. My oppenent made his stripe. Caromed the cue ball off the 8 and made my 1 ball. Left me with this:

This is where lack of commitment about what shot to do will cost you the game. By commitment I mean you decide on a shot and put whole self into it.

The shot I choose was one I have made over and over again, however I was not comminted to making the shot and missed and gave to game away. It doesn't matter how many times you made a shot before, the only time its matters is now.

FWIW

ps, I just learn cue table, so I'm kinda having fun.

The angle at which the 1 ball comes off the 1st rail is impossible. For the 1 ball to go over toward the 8, it would have to hit the cushion before the side pocket, not after it.

Doesn't matter. That was a stupid shot. As others have said, banking it toward the 10's pocket is better. 10 makes it a bigger pocket, 10 gets kicked to a bad place on the table, the cue ball stays down by the 8 ...only good things can happen. Not a whole lot of bad can happen. It's a bit of an off bank I admit, but you can spin it in. At least isn't a hail mary slop shit shot like the one you attempted to diagram.

I would make the 8B and follow it in with the CB. That way the 8 will have to be spotted long with one of my balls as a penalty....... What? You can't do that in 8-Ball? Stupid game.... Oh well! Never mind.

hate to burst your bill, but the way you diagrammed it, that is a double kiss.

If its frozen or close to frozen, I would try to spin it in rail first

If its a bit off the rail, would anybody else just try to kick the ball in, or am I just crazy? Honestly, that bank never seems to avoid the kiss for me unless I hit it super thick and the chances of it selling out are fairly high regardless. I figure that I might as well go for broke and shoot the shot that gives me the highest pocketing percentage.

I might try to kick it too...esp w/ the 8 in the easy to make spot.

If the 1 isn't frozed, I might also slo-roll CB to it, leaving other girl jacked up.

Either way, you are losing from there, for all intents and mereswine.

Bank the ball to the diagonally opposite corner pocket. KISS Method. Your probably going to lose any way. It's a very make- able one-hole shot.

Hmmm

I wouldn't say I'm great, but I have won the city championship twice (back when it was all the players in it, before the leagues) and several Naval District Championships at 8 ball. I will state that better than 99% of true 8 ball players will shoot the one towards the 10, trying to make it. And at a speed that will leave the 10 tough if you don't make the one.

I posted the bank to the other corner as an option because the above mentioned shot had already been mentioned. The cut is an option, but it better be one of your specialty shots to try it. (some players are odds on favorite to cut it in)

Neil, I think you would thus qualify as a great 8baller !! I certainly did not mean pro status, but guys who can play some excellent 8 ball in tourneys or leagues. I agree with you on that shot, and can't possibly think for a minute someone would take any other shot here. AGain, that is a heck of a one pocket shot, but not for 8ball. If I can shoot that shot as described in a game of 8ball, I'm probably shooting out of my mind to even think of it let alone actually pull it off !!

My point too. I hate 8 ball, its a poor game IMO. In most cases, the most important shot is the break, and if you make a ball and get choice, the group that is left usually has issues.

It isnt the best player that usually wins the game, its the player with the better group.

I agree with the group. I would bet you 50-1 on the shot you made. Just because you got lucky and won does not mean it is the right shot.

Best of rolls,

Ken
