End of DAZN finally?

MR extended its deal with DAZN in May 2023 through 2026, but the press release only refers to boxing. As such I assume pool is free to go its own way. DAZN probably isn't all that bothered. DAZN puts pool almost dead last among the sports it covers.

I would be annoyed, though, if WNT cut off DAZN coverage on Jan 1 with so little notice. Seems like I am going to get stuck paying DAZN $10 a month from Jan 2025 to Nov. 2025.

I wonder if this applies to everyone.
Currently they televise the matches on SkySports so Euros get it basically free.
Many of us have ways to stream SjkySports and are immune to being extorted by DAZN and its hit-or-miss, overpriced streaming.
If it isn't on SkySports in the future, I wonder if they will be giving free subscriptions for WNT.TV to everyone except Americans, or if everyone will be charged the same going forward.

no.. sky is only available in the UK. the rest of europe has to buy viasport, which is 36 USD / month. so i definitely hope this new platform will be available in europe.

and Sky Sports isn't free, its approx $30 USD per month (varies depending on package, provider etc.).

I suspect the new service will only be available when an event isn't shown on an existing network, I don't think it was explicit on the WNT release, but on the WST release (which was almost the same time, so presumably co-ordinated) it specifically mentioned Matchroom coverage when not being shown by an existing provider (so for example in the UK that could be Snooker's Champion of Champions, it is shown on ITV and won't therefore be available in the UK on another platform). My interpretation was that the WNT offering will have a similar approach, so for the big events you'd still need Viaplay.

To clarify, fans in the UK have to pay an extra fee monthly to have Skysports?

Yeah, Sky is a subscription service, you have to pay to get the basic channels then extra for movies, sports etc.

Subscriptions cost between (approximating for the fx) $20 - $100 per month.

You can also buy single day or single month passes instead of having to sign up for 18 months on a contract, but nothing is free!

From Matchroom today:

Users in the US will be able to access the full schedule on WNT TV in 2025, in addition to hundreds of hours of VOD (video on demand) content including previous matches, live streams, interviews and more.

How much does WNT TV cost?

$10 per month or $100 per annum (local currencies apply).

I guess it's time to cancel my DAZN subscription!

What I want to know is if DAZN will still carry matches. I am locked in at $10 a month for 11 more months.

Price aside, VOD is the big thing for me. I do like to watch older matches not available.

This seems like a fairly big deal. Running everything on your own channel isn't exactly super cheap. But it's good the money will be going to MR and not DAZN.

I doubt that Matchroom will be running a streaming service directly. Even matchroom.live is run by a third party.

I didn't want to get too deep in the weeds, but I assumed MR was using a separate vendor.

Whatever the case, one has to assume MR is moving in this direction because of a potentially big revenue opportunity. DAZN sucks, it sucked away money, and it damaged the MR brand.

DAZN not having VOD was also a big, big downer to me. Pretty much impossible to rewatch stuff.
