Enough is enough -- shut up or put up

-peer,

I have still been pretty busy. I am going to Milpitas tonight for the first week of BCA in our area. I don't have my camera with me, and if you feel up to it, you could swing by Edgies. If you are interested in BCA, we need more players. So, you are welcome to join. If you can't make it, maybe we can get together some other time.

Regards,
Mathew Pugh

P.S. Congrats to Chris aka Bumpy Pickle for qualifying for APA Nationals 8 ball. He had the toughest board and was down in the start. He managed to pull it together and win the qualifier.

Well, I actually prefer BCA than those sissy APA, (if it was Friday, I'd have used the word 'pussy'). Hence, I wish I could make it down to Milpitas tonight.

Anyways, I still think it would be more fun if we could do this video shoot on the same table that Chris used, i.e. table #4 at Shoreline, (yea, that'll tick him off). PM me whenever you have time -- but give me a 12 hours heads up.

Oh watch out buddy boy -- don't tell the lads that a monster draw-shot can be useful, (betya' you'll soon hear some woofing from LoGiC, td873, Neil, cubswin, JohnPT, etc ;^)

I'm not woofing nothing, your FRIEND can out draw me- I'll give him that.

But if you have to use a draw like that- you need to work on your patterns, because none of the great players are ever forced to take shots like that.

I'd like to see these 8-Ball championships though, because I doubt Chris will use shot there.

Mano o mano...

To revive this thread, and to make a short story long; last Friday, during my bang-practice at our pool hall (Shoreline Billiards), a guy walked up to my table and asked if I was "Peer". Being afraid that he might either be my ex-gf's lawyer or someone from the INS/IRS/FBI/ATF Homeland Security or the local law enforcement, I naturally pointed in one direction and walked off in the opposite. But shortly thereafter, our senior pool-hall employee, Al, spilled the beans on me -- so suddenly there was no way out of this rat-trap. Fortunately, however, this person was a AzBilliards forum member, Okinawa77, and he wanted me to shoot a video of him attempting a similar two table-length draw shot that I recently shot of Chris Capp; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqCPqYJ30zo

However, as you can see (link below), Okinawa77 is a bit short of the intended target, but yet it's a darn pretty good draw shot (and of course better than I could ever dream of doing) although it took him almost 10 minutes of repeatedly trying.

At first he tried to make this shot with his own OB-1 cue but wasn't too successful, to say the least. Then I let him try the cues that I brought with me that afternoon; a fancy Longoni (with two different shafts, including a Z2), a hard hitting Keith Josey (with a 314 shaft) and finally a vintage Brunswick cue, converted by RAT Cues' Ryan Theewen to sprout a modern joint and a Z-shaft (i.e., that's where my "ratty cue" comment in this clip stems). And sure enough, this was the cue Okinawa77 made his best draw.

In any case, I'm happy to finally meet this guy -- his real name is Matt -- he turned out to be a very friendly & fun fellow. Hence, I applaud him to be such a good sport, trying to best the incredible Chris Capp's monster draw. And of course, due to my deficiencies, I now hate them both.

Too often I see people on this forum making all kinds of claims (usually about their superlative skills, etc.) Most recently was okinawa77's amazing draw skill:
> The best I have done it 18 feet (2 table lengths) on a 9 foot table.
> I can consistently draw full table on 9 footers, and about 50%
> consistency on 1.5 table lengths.

So last night, while me and my buddy Chris (aka "bumpypickle" who might be a strong APA 4) were bullshitting, I got my video camera and captured a few of Chris' draw-shots... and I just put the result up on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqCPqYJ30zo

Hence, it's time to either shut up or put up.

Well, I don't know... but seeing that there are, so far, 144 replies and over 6,000 views on this subject, I guess that's pretty much the number of "who cares".

In case you didn't know this, roughly 99% of pool players are full of crap when it comes to their playing abilities, and what shots they can make. I've heard countless people talk about their prowess, only to watch how "well" they play.

I could care less if you can draw the ball 1 or 2 table lengths, and to "call someone out" regarding it is juvenile. Unless you're 16, I'm thinking you're try to make up for a lack of something.

I guess you haven't read much of my posts or followed this thread.

By the way, unless you are 16, it should be "you are trying to make up...". (just a friendly reminder ;^)

Negative repping me for that was also pretty juvenile. Who's the one that's 16?

Yet I'm a juvenile, I'll give you a good rep to balance it back... buddy boy.

By the way, in case it makes you feel better, this Shawn Armstrong guy also bad rep'ed me. And my offense was merely posting a video of a guy drawing a cue ball. Some members of this forum are a hoot.

Drama queens. Go cry in the corner with each other...................

Thanks for posting the video, Peer.

I think it's funny how I could draw better with the house cue than my OB1 shaft/cue. Maybe the foam-like core in the shaft does not transfer as much power...like a dampener or something.

Now, I just need to work on running more than 2 balls per inning. :)

Remember, the best draw you got was with my ratty old Brunswick (with an Elk Master tip & Z-shaft)... and a pretty darn good draw as well. As for you running only 2-balls, I think we should start gamble sometime soon, (before you move to Austin ;^)

Anyways, it was very nice meeting you, and I hope to meet/play you soon.

I was planning to take my first pool lessons with Scott Lee, but with my move from Cali to Texas coming up, I will have to tighten by spending. I probably won't have enough money anytime soon. If he sees the video, he'll probably tell me my stroke sucks, and I have a lot of work to do to improve it. I'll just have to save some money up, and eventually have enough for a lesson. It's too bad cues aren't selling good right now. I have a bunch of cues, but no one is buying.
