Epoxy-what/where to buy

I was reading some of the older threads on epoxies. I saw that many recommend West Systems. I did a search for places to buy on their website and it appears that I will have to drive to Dallas to get some. Do others have to drive to get theirs or can it be shipped? Also, is there something else that it more readily available that works decent?

If it helps, I am just layering and pressing some wood.
 
Call your local hardware store. My local Ace hardware store carry's West system. Every body that sell it does not come up on the search function that West has on there website. I just looked on there and it says the closest I can buy it is over 100 miles. My local Ace hardware is about 2 miles.

Thanks, I will check Ace. There are a couple around me. I checked a few places before I looked at where to buy on their site.
 
For your application, common yellow wood glue is likely the best. I like Titebond glues and can buy them at the local hardware store. It's very, very tough to beat wood glue for gluing clamped wood.
 
Some local boat shops have it if there are any near by. Why not use wood glue if it is a wood to wood glue up?

I use titebond III now and it works great. I guess I was under the impression that I needed something tougher. I plan on turning my laminates and didn't want them to fly apart
 
Titebond III should continue to work well for you. The major difference between Titebond II, III and II Extend is moisture content. The type of wood you are using and how well or poorly it takes water will be the major determining factor in which one you might use. You don't need epoxy to glue 2 or more layers of wood together.

Titebond will hold solid

and the laminates will not fly apart. Just make sure the surfaces are a good tight fit. I have used it on many butterfly cues with no issues what so ever.
If I am using dyed veneers in the laminates, I prefer West system. I find less issues with dyes leaching into neighboring laminates. I did have that problem with stong colored veneers leaching with every one of the titebonds.
I use the 105 resin with 205, 206, and 207 hardeners. I have come to prefer the 207 hardener for my laminates. It has long working time, and the recent addition of a UV protection in the 207 hardener is a plus. The other hardeners are great for pins, collars, etc. Hope that helps? ANd I do not recall paying anything extra for shipping it to my door. It may be non hazardous? There was no haz-mat fee.
