equipment trivia question

This question came up in the pool room last night. Does anyone know why the bristles on a pool table brush are notched in the center? The design does not seem to help in brushing under the rails or anywhere else on the table that we can determine. I tried to attach a pic but I don't know what I'm doing. (Guess it worked afterall).

It's designed that way to ease brushing under the rails. The theory is by the center being comprised of short bristles it allows you to compress the end bristles easier in order to get under the banks.

Thanks And thanks again for the link to the 15 page patent document. :)
Careful what you ask for. Least I'll have supporting documents. LOL

I believe the longer brissels fit on both sides of the tops of the rails way the dirt doesn't fall back on the table bed. I've only used them brushes a million times...and I really never thought about it. Johnnyt
