Ernie Martinez Update

What have you got in it?

I ask that all the time and I never mind discloseing that information. Money talks. Chances are if I ask that question I already know the answer!!!! It is the absolute best way to tell right away the sellers character. What they want is what the rub is. If I have $200 in a cue and I want $2000 I wil tell you well I got $200 in it but I have to have $2000 and you might think what you will. When I buy a cue I get deals most can't and the peace of mind you get with dealing with any stand up seller is worth a premium. That is why we give a satisfaction money back gaurentee and make sure you are pleased. And most will say worth every cent. But a bumb in a poolroom will say I got this and you can get it cheap and all sales are you buy you keep. That is a poolroom deal and if you like them they are everywhere and they are almost always sh#t and you never know until it is too late. If you are offended by anyone asking what do you have in it maybe you know something I don't. I am not the sharest rock in the pile. And I don't do this for a living just giggles. But everyone that knows me seems to like the way my transactions turn out. I will say that it is never nice for anyone to disclose prices they shouldn't especially discounts from cue makers but most everyone knows what the discounts are they just can't afford the ride.It actually cost more to pay less. And in that sicuation discrete dealings must be honored. But that is different. Some things should be kept confident. In that case I say I'd tell you but then I would have to kill ya! Nick:)

The flip side to this question is what if that person just lies to you? IMHO its the worse possible question to ask in a negotiation, or even just a passing inquiry. The answer, IYO may show the sellers character, but IMHO it shows the buyers. You may ask the ? but maybe I say 1000 when I got 600 into the cue.. so what does the ? really get you? You really don't know, or cannot be sure if the answer you got, was true.

Kind of like asking your wife or g/f how many guys she had before you..

I have to agree with Joe here. What the owner of an item has into it has no bearing on what it may be worth, and is in a way information that is private. I have an acquaintence that bought a black boar at a yard sale for $25.00 and it has no relation to the value of the cue. IMO it would put the seller in an uncomfortable situation and would hinder any further negotiations..
Just my 2 cents..

Ernie Update

Hi All,

Ernie has surfaced again. Since he no longer has any equipment to do any cue work, he may be partnering with a local cuemaker in the Denver area. It's in the early stages of negotiations but if this happens, all of Ernie's cues will go through this cuemaker. Maybe this is what Ernie needs...a little structure.

I was contacted by the cuemaker to see if I was interested in helping them sell Ernie's cues through the internet. I am fairly busy but I would probably help them. This would mean AZers would get first crack, then eBay. There would be no back-door pricing and everything will be above board. Those who know me or have done business with me know I'm a straight shooter and my word is very good. I am planning to meet with them this weekend to learn more.

Even if I choose not to be their front guy, I will be happy to pass on any information as I learn more.

I know from your posts that many of you wish Ernie well, as I do, so this is really good news. I hope he is here to stay.

Dave

I bought that Martinez from Duane via this thread. Since it's easily the best hitting cue I have ever used, and I have used an awful lot of them, this news makes me very happy. Ernie is a real artist. Just putting the shaft on the cue makes me giddy!

Hey there,

If you need some $$$ to buy some equipment.....give me a hollar -- maybe we can find some folks to help Ernie get back in the game ;)

Cheers, Ken

Ken,

How nice of you to think of a way to help Ernie, thanks. However, from what I understand he will be using the cuemaker's equipment so your offer might not be necessary. I will be meeting with the cuemaker on Sunday but ernie will not be at that meeting, he will roll out his business plan to me for my feedback and to see if I want to get involved. As I said earlier, this may be the structure Ernie needs to continue his great work for a long time. ?

I will be sure to pass on your idea, and very generous offer I might add, to Ernie and all interested parties. But to be fair to you, please consider Ernie's background and MO of starting in good faith then vanishing-so there's no guarantee you would get a return on your investment. Maybe this new structure will do the trick. Think about it and I'll report my findings. If you would still consider your offer to help with money for additional equipment, if needed, we can discuss it further at that time.

Thanks again, Dave

Starting a New Thread

I'm starting a new thread about Ernie's latest status because this one is too long, Ernie Martinez Status. Hope it's OK.
