I saw the show this morning. It is a shame that whenever they have a pool player on TV ,there appears to be an expectation of demonstration of trick shots by the players.Mike Siegal knew how to use camera and appeared like a pro in acting.Loree Jones was humble.
Since the promoter of the IT(Treudo) is a influential guy,he make take pool to new heights.

Mike siegal reminded the anchor to be carefull with his 25,000$cue.He gave it to the anchor man to hit a trick shot.

I agree, the trick shot thing is a little annoying. I saw a promo for it but surfed to another channel and forgot to surf back...ce la vie.

$150K to the winner and $75K to the loser and you are complaining about them doing trick shots to promote the event? And Million dollar tournaments in the works. I think MS would have let LJJ shoot a ball he was holding on chalk in his mouth while lying on the table. I just wonder how they (The IPT) will select who the 150 pros will be on the tour. MS and LJJ sure did look good and presented a positive image for pool. Are the pros willing to play 8-ball? Jake

They would both play with my balls for $150K or $75K. As a matter of fact, I would too.

LOL! :D That's so funny, but so true! I think if Depends Diapers offered to sponsor today's cash-starved pool players, they'd proudly wear the Depends while competing in the pit!

I missed the ESPN show today.

The way I understand the IPT, the first 45 players who pay 899 bucks before October will get a chance to compete in a $200,000-first-place prize event in December, the location to be announced.

If one reads the website of the IPT -- http://internationalpooltour.com -- there are buttons at the top to click on that do give some information about the upcoming $5-million tour.

The pool players that I have overheard talking about it seem to be excitedly awaiting the when-and-where of it all, and each one of them stated that they would be practicing to be all that they could be to take a shot at this kind of money.

I hope those who are in attendance at the Sigel versus Jones match in Las Vegas will update us upon their return of their impression of this ground-breaking exhibition which is also the the launch of the IPT.

I'm going to take a wait-and-see stance at this juncture, but I do have an open mind, surprisingly! :p

That's because you shoot pool regularly.

It takes awhile for the neophyte to absorb the fact that it looks easy when a pro has 8-10 very easy shots in a row is because the SKILL is in CB control.

If you set up those same 8-10 shots for an average person you might be surprised how many would run them or come close. The reason they don't is they can't control the CB to set the shots up themself.

In a 60 second clip it's not possible to demonstrate and explain that, it's much easier to arrange a shot which someone can't believe can be made than it is to show them how to arrange an easy shot.

I have stated this before, I cannot stand when, the have world class pool players on tv just do dog tricks... When Tiger Woods does an interview, I wish they would make him do golf tricks and send him on his way, but NOOOO, they actually do a meaningful respectful interview and he actually gives some insights about the game, himself and what its like to be a champion at his game...... It just goes to show, that pool at the professional level gets no respect...

Unfortunately there really is no men's pool at the truly professional level. CW with his Patriot Cup, and the Mosconi Cup do have only true professionals competing and can be called professional pool. But all the other tournaments will usually allow anyone with the money to enter. Watching the truly greats, the real pros, play each other is worth it. But when the top pros play the weaker players that just degrades the game.

It will be interesting to see the list of professional pool polayers that the IPT comes up with and how they arrived at the list. And how players will be removed from the list. And how future players will be added to the list. What will be the criteria to be an IPT Pro?

Your right about that there really is no "professional pool" that exist today. But Sigel and Jones played and won in the era's that had professional tours and they both won alot of titles in there day. They could have had mentioned that and their other accomplishments....

What a crock!

Let's see, where was Jason Gore ranked before this year's US Open (golf)? Yeah, golf sucks now. Where was Chris Moneymaker before his fluke win? Poker sucks now, too (actually, that's always been my contention). My boy Robert Ray placed 2nd at the Masters (pool) this year. Thorsten Hohman and a 16 YEAR OLD (!) Wu Chia-Ching winning the WPC? WTF? Yep, pool definitely sucks. One of the greatest tennis matches of all time was between Younes El Aynaoui and Andy Roddick a couple of years ago at the Australia Open (21-19 in the fifth). Tennis sucks. All these games suck because your so-called "weaker" players stepped up and gave the big boys a run for their money. Christ, we can't have that - it upsets the status quo.

[SARCASM]Man, I hate not seeing the same faces all the time. Why can't every final just be Earl Strickland and Johnny Archer? Hey, why don't we just skip the tournament process altogether and just have Earl and Johnny split all the money....[/SARCASM]

Jake, since you obviously don't play in any pro events, just how do you expect "weaker" players to become pro-caliber? Hint: sitting in the stands and watching usually doesn't cut it....

DJB,
Couldn't have said it better myself. Currently, one of the great attractions of pool is the opportunity to kick in the entry and compete with the pro's - sure the first round or two may be a little weaker; but its a great opportunity for the fantasy camp guys, and as you have correctly pointed out, a great opportunity for the up and coming players. Didn't anyone catch the performances at DCC by ZigZagMaster or Jamie Baraks? After all, won't we eventually tire of watching the 90 year old Earl get stomped every week in the finals by that young 80 year old whippersnapper Johnny Archer?????
