Estate Sale -- Hopedale, Ms

unless its an absolute action or they post a bunch of prices on things its a waste of time to go. also unless they say they will bargain until sold.

if you go go for the leftovers.

I never had any good luck at auctions, everything sold for more than new , and they always had 100 moves to fade . On the other hand I have had friends go to them and get some really nice pieces for nothing. I guess it is the luck of the draw.

To my experiences, those companies that manage estate sales price obscenely high to start and then begin reducing prices on the second day. Sometimes in the last hour or two they're 80-90% off. Everything sells eventually, but for some reason, it's difficult to get a bargain. Maybe with the rarity of pool and billiard collecting, someone would have a chance to get some decent

Auctions really are hit or miss. Around here, though, the one constant is guns. Those regularly go for new prices or higher. On the flip side, regular run of the mill household items typically go for pennies on the dollar. Hell, my ex wife furnished her entire first apartment at a storage facility auction for less than $500. Granted, that was a million years ago. But, still, all that stuff would have been several thousand buying it new or even second hand from the trading post type publications that were around before the internet put them out of business.

I'm probably stating the obvious here, but one of the key ways to do well in auctions is to be a specialist in a niche area. And that's exactly what we've got here with cues. The average person has no clue what some of these cues are actually worth and they would more than likely go for less than their "true" value at a live open (not online) auction. I realize this is a singular point, but my dad picked up a really nice vintage Adam (forget the model, but it's full splice with inlays and a leather wrap) in basically new condition for something like $30.00 a while ago. I've got it now and will post pics later if anyone is interested.

Having said all that, I don't get a "bargain" feeling about this sale. And I think calling them about certain objects would only serve to put a spotlight on them. As cool as it is, I'm not going to invest the time and cash into the road trip. But hopefully someone on here is close enough to go and actually gets some good deals. If so, I'd dig hearing about it.

They would make three times what they're going to make auctioning them to a local audience by just listing the cues on eBay and starting them at a penny.

Huge Hopedale Two Day Estate Sale Friday & Saturday December 6-7

Hopedale Two Day Estate Sale Friday & Saturday December 6-7 . . . The late owner was an avid Billiards player and amassed a wonderful collection of . . . billiard cue sticks . . . table by Diamond Professional

Lots of cues -- Horn, Schrager, McDermott (including Series D1-D24). Longoni, Audrick, Willie Hoppe, O’Connor, Dale Perry, Taylor and others.

Perhaps a case of more money than sense, but you be the judge. Photos reveal a number of "middle of the road" cues but hide a great deal. May be some real rockets . . .
Might be a few good ones, the reflection hampers the view.

Seeing estate sales like this just makes me sad. Some poor sap kicks the bucket and doesn’t have a family to pass along his cool shit to, or even worse the kids are such asshats they can’t agree on anything and have to pay a large percentage to have a stranger sell off dads stuff. Hopefully the proceeds are going to the humane society or something.

I will say the dude had style. I don’t know anything about watches and couldn’t care less about them, but his bar looked jam up.

Bumping this back up.
Did any of the members here make it to the sale? Anyone here any details about how it went? Just wondering, they had a very nice collection.
