From the NA Open,

17 players over a combined 722 games (42 game average/player) did not B&R even once.

12 players managed 1 B&R over a combined 583 games, (48 game average/player).

17 players managed 2 B&R's over a combined 856 games, (50 games average/player).

A whopping 29 players had a B&R% of 2.22 or less.

A whopping 59 players had a B&R% under 5%.

To what do you attribute this? Pressure? An off day? Just not good enough? Eight ball tougher than nine ball?
 
Small pockets and napped cloth are new conditions for some players and will take a little getting use to. The balls don't break like they do with simonis cloth.

People just do not break and run as often as people think they do.

If you don't win a game you can't break and run.

On the other hand, the top ten finishers averaged just under 20%.

Before this tourney, who would have predicted these kinds of low figures?

Not to mention the miniscule amount of 8's on the break.

I would love to see the IPT do a nine ball tourney just to compare the
stats.
 
I guess the percentage of B&Rs out of total games won would be a more
accurate figure then, obviously much higher numbers.

Athough that still means the 17 players without any B&R's had
189 cracks.

Also interesting to me is the fact that Efren broke 10 points below Hohman. Soquest, Bustamante in that category. I gues that speaks to the skill level of those three players.
 
I don't think any information can be derived form the performance of the weakest players on this tour. It's no secret that there's a lot of "dead money" out there, but, as we all realize, this problem will be solved over time, as the annual "50 out, 50 in" system is implemented. By 2008, this will be a tour of worldbeaters.

As for the elite, I'd have thought their break and run percentage would have been slightly, but not significantly, higher.

It does not mean 189 cracks. The only time you can break and run is when you make a ball, I don't think there are any stats to tell when a ball is made. If you mean 189 breaks at it that is different. these tables are hard to make a ball on the break.
 
Sorry, but I presume that when you step up for the break you have a chance to make a ball so it should be part of the percentage.

Of course it would be nice to see what the plain old run% would be for those stepping up to the table with a broken rack.
