Evan Lunda... INSANE cut...!!

Roberto Gomez did it in this year’s tournament at Buffalo’s. I’ve made the same shot several times, JoeyA made it against me. Evan’s shot was the first time I’ve seen it in a big tournament.

I shoot it every time in that situation. It's a lot easier on a fast table. In my mind, I'm not really planning on making it, just pushing it close and sometimes it goes. Even if you miss it completely, you're not selling out.

It's a standard, tough shot at one pocket. The three problems are:

Missing the ball entirely. A ball spots behind and it's safe.

Scratching on two cushions. This is deader on some tables than others. If you have made the ball, two balls will spot, and it's sort of safe.

Hitting it too full and scratching. Leaves a spot shot for your opponent with a ball near your pocket.

If you hit it well but don't make it, the leave is generally safe.

I wish I had video of Jack Hynes shooting a insane cut. Ball just past the side pocket 1 1/2 balls off the rail. Cue ball in opposite corner pocket in the kitchen. Back cutting it across to the corner pocket. He was trying it with my friends break cue and commented "damn that tip is hard".

I always to err on the side of missing contact entirely, so a ball spots up, no sell out.

Also it’s better to whiff the ball than it is to hit it to thick and scratch. If you do then a ball spots up plus you leave the first ball on that end of the table and the opponent has the opportunity to get both balls.
