Even Broken A Cue?

Since I am a super hothead, I have a tendency to be hard on cues.

The kill count:

2 no name cues I bought early on.
1 McDermott shaft and bent pin
At LEAST 6 McWorter shafts.

I have never, like a friend of mine, thrown a cue...javelin style, in to a wall.. BTW, the hole is still there.

Yah, it was stupid and cost alot of money. My temper has luckily subsided with age.

you are not the only one..i have broken a few shafts in my time...actually all within 2 monts of each other..a shaft for my schon sneaky pete..meucci shaft, and ob1 shaft..just got frustrated how bad i play now compared how i used to play....like u said..all it does it cost u $$$ so i figured better calm myself down and just try my best without the temper..
 
I've come close... shotty Cuetec did me no good. Lol. Worst purchase ever. Good thing it was cheap. Haha. I've considered still doing the same, but I have a buyer. Lol. One of my friends kinda wants to get serious in pool. He's a newbie to playing seriously. I'm selling it for less than I got it. Though, I imagine breaking it would be fun.
Though, I'd never break something like a McDermott. If I did I'd break one of my fingers. Lol.
 
Definitely snapped a Universal Smartshaft into three pieces following a league playoff. The adapter was epoxied in, and one night before all of this I dropped my cue, and the adapter shattered, leaving part of it stuck in the shaft for good. Then after I lose our first round playoff match for my team by one point, I get pissed and take the broken shaft out. I tilt it against the barbox and give it a swift kicking in.
 
Playing in a bar league match once in a small bar with one table, everything going right along as usual with some players watching and others talking, people at the bar doing what they do... a player on the other team shot and missed and immediately let loose with a loud curse and broke his cue over his knee. The whole bar got deathly silent as he walked over and threw the remainder of his cue down and slumped into his chair. After about 5 seconds, he muttered "Damn, now I've got to buy Fred a new cue." The whole bar went to laughing, cheering and applauding.
 
My Schuler cue has taken a lot of abuse as a result of my temper and bad play. I've thrown it in anger several times, either on the pool table, on the floor, or against the table where it was leaning.

But alas, during a league 9-ball match where I couldn't make more than 2 balls in a row against a weak player, I slammed the tip of my cue into the playing surface of the pool table. I did so in a very similar way to what Earl Strickland did when he slammed his cue into the floor, and broke his shaft into several pieces a few years ago during the Mosconi Cup or World Cup of Pool. Anyway, I cracked my shaft and severely bent my joint which rendered my cue useless, so I couldn't use the extra shaft that I kept with me just for an incident like this. I then used one of my teammate's cues to close out the match, shot lights out, and won the match.

The next day, I order a Mezz cue that I shoot with now. I like it a lot better than my Schuler, so it was a blessing in disguise I guess.

Several years earlier, I beat a guy out of $100 in 9-ball and he did an Earl Strickland on his cue in disgust, breaking it into a million pieces.
 
I broke a Burgundy "Earl Strickland" graphite cue in the comfort of my own home, practicing. Smashed it to bits. I was so embarrassed to show up and answer questions about it later on, I bought another one. That was promptly smashed as well.

Both cues had it coming, believe you me.*

I can't afford to destroy my Viking VM28 with 314 matched joint cue, and definitely don't manhandle my Samsara. I don't break any cues any more.

I used to get really frustrated learning the game, missing shots I though I should make at that point in time.

Today, I still miss the same shots, but understand a bit more, and that getting upset takes me out of my game.

*We soon will have some blessed angles posting on this thread "Oh, I've NEVER broken a cue, I would never ever do that. Disrespect the game, your opponent, the cue maker, your parents, the room owner, etc. I'm surprised this has not occurred yet.

You broke a cue during a practice session? You must be one serious pool player. I get mad all the time when I play poorly in matches and have abused cues during matches, but I've never even been close to being mad enough to abuse a cue during a bad practice session, and I take my practice sessions pretty seriously most of the time.
 
You can't ever expect anybody to take you seriously if you don't respect your equipment.

Further any player that has ever thrown a temper tantrum and thrown, smashed or otherwise broken a cue has been unceremoniously kicked off my team.

Not only does it show a lack of respect for the game and your opponents but everybody around you.
 
In true Ronnie O Sullivan form,...Ive bitten off a fair shair of tips. That will slow you down a bit.

:mad:Ahhhh yes, I too have destroyed many a cue in my time. Thankfully I can honestly say that I haven't splintered any since 2003! That was one EXPENSIVE night indeed! I went through three cues and then ran over a case with my car repetedly! I even ended up cutting my hand with a knife when I rammed it through the roof of my car and I had to get stitches. I wear that scar as a reminder of who I was and still could be again without control... Like I said BAD night for sure.

Needless to say, I'm proud of the changes I've made in my life since then and although I do still have a little fire in my eyes from time to time, I have not become destructive in over 6yrs. It was finally time to grow up and start living life as an adult rather than an immature child without control over myself.

Anger is the most dangerous emotion that we must suffer folks...don't let it rule you. The only thing you destroy is another piece of yourself in the end anyway.
 
When i was 15 (im 31 now) i was playing a set with a guy and missed and 8 ball to win the set. snapped the cue at the joint on the side of the table.

Sad part is the guy didnt get out and i still won the set.

Worst part is it was a $20 set.

Even worse, it was a $400 viking cue.

Since then i have not intentionally broke a cue, though i have snapped a shaft while breaking.

Several years ago a guy in a pool room here threw his playing cue the length of the room and stuck it in the wall. The room had 2 rows of tables with about 8 in each row. The cue stuck about 5 feet off the floor. It was an AE cue.

What can I say? I'm more apt. to act a fool in the privacy of my basment with nobody around. I was working on Burt Kinister's "The Short Game" starting out. I couldn't hold the cue ball off the rail a few inches, but it went a few feet. It would drive me crazy.
 
my friends started to teach me how to play when i was about 16 at 17 i bought a fairly nice mali for about $120. a month later it was smashed on a rail of a gold crown over a $20 loss in a 9 ball race to 3. not long after that i bought my first meucci and happy to say that cue is still with me at 38 years old. the custom cue i play with now i couldn't afford to replace so i think it's safe as can be.
 
Well Luckly I haven't Broken a cue yet but the other night I was asked by these two guys I was playing " have you ever broke your breaking cue Shaft " I was like no why ? they repiled well I've never seen anyone break as hard as you and have a shaft left at the end so I took that as a compliment .
