Not really. All employers know that I enjoy it very much and they really have no problem on taking time off to do that, regardless if it is PTO or not. It's a part of my deal when I work for anyone.
Hey the way I've always look at it is that everytime ur there @ work, your seeking the personal goals/interest of the company, in respect, the company should seek urs as well.... whether it is monetarily, PTO's, family and such.
In my case, I explain that in the interview. From that point we normally make a deal at the exit interview.

Man I was in the middle of a set once and my boss walked in a fired me on the spot. That'll teach me to park around back. Luckily the pool room needed a mgr at that time so it was a blessing. :D

I am salary so I can take off so many PTO days a year. However if I work until noon it counts as a full day and not a PTO day. A couple of time preparing for a bigger tourney I have used that tactic to get out for a full afternoon of practice.

No No, Never!!!

I called the poolroom the other day and told them I had to do some work. The owner called me a traitor. The guilt was unbearable.

I called in to several pool rooms that I worked at just so I could go play pool somewhere else. Didn't have an ounce of guilt either.

Caught on film

So I wasn't feeling all that well on Wednesday and decided a trip to AmsterCorner would make me feel betta. I was the first one there and requested my favorite table only to be told they can't give it to me because Thorsten's gonna play on it. Fine, I'll just get a table in the corner. Lucky me, Thorsten's doing his rematch w/Paul Sorvino.

So they filmed it and put it on utube. I'm watching the match and see myself shooting in the background, lol. Hope my boss doesnt see it. Busted...

can't do it

i work in a pool room. although back in 72 when i was the manager of a body shop i did quit, lock the door and went to the pool room.

I used to call in sick to play golf all the time!
Once I called in sick and the news crew was at the course and they caught me on camera for a full freaking hole!! Well, the bosses did not say anything to me, but the kept giving me the eye! And I had to document my time off after that, so i ended up quiting because I cant have someone watching me that close. Gives me the creeps.

I mean I earn sick days and vacation days, as long as I get my work done, then why cant I use them?

no i haven't although when i call in sick my lead hand thinks for some reason that i played pool. I usually play pool after work when so they see my case. But c'mon how dare her think that I would do such a thing.

I've taken days off cause I knew I was going to be out late playing pool. And yes, I've called in sick on days that I would get home at the time that I should've been on my way to work!

I get 3 wks vacation and 2 wks PTO.
All of which are available in 1/2 day increments
So I take off at lunch ALOT to go play

I've been fortunate enough to have worked for a boss that wanted to learn/play pool during work hours and let me bill for it. He got fired. I left shortly thereafter.

After late night league play, I'll sometimes call in that I'll be late getting to the office. Also, I've taken a half or full day off the play pool when I have the bug. I look at it as "a bad day of pool is better than a good day of work." It's my time off, I'll use it anyway I please. ;)

I called in the other day but I was really sick so I went to bed and took some antibiotics. I woke up 3 hours later and felt a lot better so I decided to go hangout at the poolhall...well I participated in the weekly tournament and I won that thing:D .

I basically didn't lose any money from calling in sick because I won it in the tournament and I call that a 'stroke' of luck:cool:

It's a phenomonon I like to call the pool hookie paradox: It states that if I would have worked all of the days I called in sick to play pool, I could have comfortably retired by now and played pool full time; however, just as "money won is twice as sweet as money earned", MISSING WORK to play pool is twice as sweet as just playing pool.

I tell my boss every once in a while I'm leaving a little early to play in a small weekly tournament, but I've only called in sick to play golf. Once.

Haven't called in sick to play pool yet. But I've skipped a LOT of classes during college just to play pool. And Counter-strike. And Diablo 2. :D :D :D

LOL Absolutely I have called in sick to play pool. Though at my soon-to-be-former job, it's just called personal time so I don't need to explain anything. Not like I would anyhow.

When I first got my table, I called in for 3 days straight LOL! That was the maximum allowed before having to have an excuse from a doctor. (I have always wondered if my doctor would have gone along with the diagnosis of "he couldn't come to work because he had an acute case of poolitis."
