Ever turn down a break shaft?

Was thinking about buying an LD break shaft and was just wondering if anyone has turned theirs down. Ive been breaking with my playing cue and the tip on that is like 12.3mm at most. I get a really well controlled break with good spread quite often. Any time I use an actual break cue or a bar cue anything thats bigger then 12.75mm I find I lack in both areas.

I understand that a smaller tip will lead to more miscues but I might miscue trying to break once in every 100 tries and i doubt even that. I Actually miscue more with a break cue but thats because of the hard tip that im not use to.

How about an OB control break shaft turned down to 12.50mm with some kind of leather tip. Any reason not to?

It won't lead to more miscues, I have regularly broken with a 12.5, never miscued unless my stroke was on vacation

I've never "turned down" a break shaft.

No one has every offered me one.

FWIW, I use a standard cue with a 13mm tip for breaking. Why do people need "special" cues to break with?

This is the opposite of what most players would want in a break cue, I have had several pros break with the cue that my son uses to break, a McDermott GCore shaft (which is farily stiff) and they said they did not like it, it was not stiff enough. Maybe the issue with your view of the break and the shaft/cue is that maybe you are not breaking enough with something else and the sample of good vs bad breaks is too low, or you break on a better setup table with clean balls when using your cue to break vs some crappy table with dirty balls when using the other shafts.

Yes

"Joey in cali" turned down my Dymonwood break shaft for me and did a good job. It goes on my Diveney jump/break cue. It was hard on his bits and I am grateful he did it. He extended the taper and it is much better for me now and I can jump with it now and could not before, thanks to the phenolic ferrule/tip he put on it.

I am ok with a 12.75 to 14 mm break shaft. But, I also feel break shafts are over rated for most pool players and doubt my percentage of wins would suffer much if I broke with my playing cue all the time.

I turned down them down to 12.5 or 12.75 often for myself and other people. Normally for the 9 ball crowd

I don't like battering my playing tip unnecessarily. I like a break/jump for utility when needed

I have two shafts for my Andy Gilbert break cue. I had one of them sanded down to ~12.75 so I could get it through my hands in the same way my shooting cue feels. No issues after 10+ years.
